Ugh. These data center plans are getting out of control.

What?

That's for *people* ????

To tackle these interlinked issues, we will introduce a new national digital ID. This is not a card but a new digital identity that will be available for free to all UK citizens and legal residents aged 16 and over (although we will consider through consultation if this should be age 13 and over). Over time, people will be able to use it to seamlessly access a range of public and private sector services, with the aim of making our everyday lives easier and more secure. It will not be compulsory to obtain a digital ID but it will be mandatory for some applications.

The government's response to the "no ID" petition. Make it make sense.

Not compulsory, but mandatory.
It's not a physical card. So how will people without phones have this "not compulsory, but mandatory" digital ID? #IDCard

Grid scale batteries are changing our electricity system. Excellent new visual story on batteries in FT today shows just how far this technology has evolved.

Fasten your seatbelts, this is just the beginning.

The fact that the President of the United States posts a fake video of a kneeling Barack Obama being handcuffed and we’re supposed to pretend it’s perfectly normal, everyday stuff shows exactly what is terribly wrong with today’s political mainstream media.

the core idea that can radicalize people is so simple:

there is enough.

there is enough food to feed everyone. enough resources to house everyone. money and technology and medicine to stop the suffering of people around the globe.

once you accept that there's only one question:

why don't we?

MAGA Lawmaker Tries To Explain What 'Chemtrails' Are After Proposing Bonkers Banβ€”And It Doesn't Go Well Science isn't MAGA's strong suit.

The whole Chemtrails thing is tragic, they're half right. The chemicals that are released in aircraft exhaust, or any fossil fuel burning exhaust, is changing the weather. It's called climate change, and we're seeing the consequences of it. So yeah, ban them 😁

Strange how any negative framing of auto culture is automatically anti-car & radical yet the billions of dollars spent on reckless car ads and auto first infrastructure isn't framed as anti-pedestrian, anti-bike, anti-transit, anti-person, anti-senior, anti-child or anti-planet.

In her 2018 paper on the subject, Daggett argues that traditional masculine identity is inherently tied to the fossil fuel economy. β€œThe narrative of righteous fossil democracy is crucial not only to American identity writ large, but to its hegemonic white masculinities,” she writes. When the narrative of righteous fossil fuel democracy is challenged, it thus becomes interpreted as a challenge to those masculinities. β€œThrough the rosy nostalgia afforded by petro-masculine identity,” Daggett writes, β€œthe affront of global warming or environmental regulations appear as insurgents on par with the dangers posed by feminists and queer movements seeking to leach energy and power from the state/traditional family.”

The connection between fossil fuel money and anti-trans groups makes way more sense once you understand the concept of petromasculinity

Brexit shatters confidence in Britain.

(Photo of shoppers in a high street)

Brexit has shattered confidence in Britain's economy, slashing it almost in half between 2015 and last month.
A Barclays 10 Years Of Spend report found confidence has fallen from 45 per cent before the referendum to 28 per cent in May.
Things started deteriorating after the UK left the EU, but have been worsened by Covid and the cost of living crisis.
But the additional shocks only highlight how Britain deciding to go it alone has left the country over-exposed in an increasingly volatile world. With Donald Trump's tariff policies descending into chaos, only a move to further rebuild ties with Europe can ensure Britain rides out any future economic storms.

And yet the politicians who championed Brexit still strut around like they’re owed power, rather than a heavy dose of proper scrutiny and public disgust for the damage they’ve collectively done.

Lovely to arrive at Cheltenham lido this morning (on foot) and discover that they’ve covered their car park in solar panels since I was last here. This should be standard for car parks everywhere. Same goes for any large roof.

This whole debate about "having more" or "having less" is quite pointless. What matters is more of what. We definitely need more housing, more clean energy, more education, more plant-based food, more trains. But less cars, less highways, less fossil fuels, less jets.
