St.George and the dragon do battle during Helstonβs traditional Hal-an-tow mystery play during Flora Day.

The mystery play is performed during Helstonβs Flora Day, the pageant starts at St John's Bridge and is performed at seven locations around the town. It was an absolute joy to follow it around this morning.
Old Ned the raven king & his teazer lead the procession of horn blowing locals to drive away the devil of winter and welcome in the summer.
Old Ned dies and is reborn again to a cacophony of horns and trumpets in the early May evening light.
The community dress in green and white as part of the revived tradition of May Horns here in Penzance.
The procession starts in the fishing village of Newlyn and marches loudly to the centre of Penzance, before everyone finishes the evening with dancing and drinking to celebrate the coming summer.

Our beautiful starlings are super busy with babies to feed, they run around our feet not in the slightest bit bothered.

Weβve been having regular visits this week from a leucistic magpie, my partner finally managed to get a phone pic of it from the kitchen this morning. The other magpies have been tolerating it so far, but not fully accepting as itβs different. At least it can feed here with all the other birds.

The closing of the ceremony in All Saints Church, originally the event was planned to be held outside but the changeable weather meant it had to be hosted under cover.
The proclamation ceremony of Gorsedh Kernow took place in Marazion yesterday, ahead of the main cultural event later on this year. This is a tremendous honour for Marazion to host the bardβs cultural celebration again, the last time it was held here was I believe 30 years ago.

The holy well next to Carn Euny Iron Age village on West Cornwall. The well walls are adorned in flowering primulas whilst the trees above are just starting to show new green growth on them.

One of my favourite places and particularly so in the peak of spring with its primula adorned walls. Itβs slightly off the beaten track so remains less cluttered compared to the other more popular holy wells.
