We haven't forgotten you all.
The last 2 weeks' play sessions have been tests for members of the group's scenarios.
We should return next week with something interesting.
Technically, we could do a review of the test scenarios, but it would be unethical to review work from members of our group.

But where are the kangaroos?*

After our short medical-induced break, we are now back in fine physical health.
Just don't ask about our sanity.
We celebrated by convening to play a (highly deserving) award-winning scenario.

"William Bailey’s Haunted Mansion" by David Waldron and Shannon Nichols brought us to colonial Australia's 1890s Ballarat in a historically inspired scenario.
Written as a tight and atmospheric one-shot, it plunged our pre-made Investigators into a setting involving seances, cults, betrayal, and creeping cosmic horror in the rough mining community surrounding Bailey's mansion.

The scenario is superbly structured, and it practically ran itself. Preparation was easy for our Keeper and made even more so with access to the actual play performance of it at the Ballarat Heritage Festival. (Go watch it on YouTube if you plan to run it, it's amazing.)
It has a clean layout, streamlined organization, and a clear writing style, making it easy to run right out of the box, with little to no prep notes.

Dr. Waldron's background as a historian makes the colonial Australian setting stand out. Historical figures, locations, and objects from the era are masterfully utilized, giving it a grounded, authentic tone. We found it served exceedingly well to heighten the horror experience and provided a lot of depth and drama for our group.
The map handouts' historical nature made a few of them hard to read, so an alternative modern version of them would have been nice, but they are superb for the atmosphere.

We loved the ruthlessness and betrayal present, and absolutely detested the sleazy cult leader.

The scenario ran for a little over three hours, followed by almost two hours of discussions and googling of historical details.

With an admission fee of only $3.97 for the PDF we highly recommend that you enter the mansion of William Bailey. It is simply a perfect pick for Keepers seeking a historical one-shot with minimal prep and maximum payoff.

We apologize for being unable to bring you a review this week.
One of our members had a family member being hospitalized, and it took priority over game night.

We hope to be back next week with a new review for you all.

Are you hungry?

We devoured Lauren Hodges' Miskatonic Repository debut, "Feed the Many, over the weekend and swore off pasta after our feast. In addition to cooking up the scenario, Lauren garnished it with her own illustrations, and we love the art style she brings to the table.

The main course of this narrative dish is a 1920s Arkham experience, simmered to perfection for 3–5 Investigators over 1–3 sessions.
Our group played it in one long serving, spending some 8 hours, including tips, to do so.
We would have relished an appetizer in the form of premade investigators, but thankfully, our Keeper whipped up a fresh batch for us.

The scenario has a fine hook to reel in a group's existing Investigators and thus serve as a satisfying bite in between the banquet of a campaign's scenarios, which does diminish the drawback of the missing pregens.

Some meals are an acquired taste, and diners with a queasy stomach better seek their sustenance elsewhere. Body horror, graphic gore, and parasitic infestation are among the things the chef has to navigate his picky eaters through.
A thematically fitting X-card, with proper instruction in its meaning and use, is included as part of the menu.

As a group, we were delighted to partake in this scenario. With its clear and digestible structure, it was easy for the Keeper to prep and plate, and left us aghast after the rich, horrifying flavors of the finale.

Purely by chance, we appear to have become a food critic service as much as a review blog.
About 2 months ago, we gave you a reason to avoid raspberries after playing "Whispers from the Bramble´s Heart" by Robert Gresham; now, thanks to Laurens' cooking, we are urging you to also avoid Spaghetti Bolognese.
You´ll understand why after playing it yourself. Dig into today’s special for just $4.99

Ever felt IKEA hides an ominous secret?

If so, Dread Designs by Christopher Dimitrios won't entirely disuade you of the notion.

We had the pleasure of playing it Saturday afternoon and had a great time. While IDEA is "clearly not" inspired by a certain Swedish chain of furniture warehouses, it is an easy "mistake" to draw the comparison, so we decided to make a little joke out of it and play it in an IKEA warehouse in their cafeteria.

Intended for 3-5 players, it comes with 5 pre-generated Investigators, to be played in a single session, it is quite suitable for a convention slot. We spent about 5 hours on our IKEA run, including a small break to explain to a few curious onlookers what we were doing.

The scenario is in a contemporary setting designed to play out in an imaginary town in Oregon in 2011. Location and timeline can be adjusted, but we ran it as written, as we saw no compelling reason to change it.

Investigators take the roles of undercover IDEA security forces tasked with exploring weird happenings inside the warehouse and its showroom. A task that is further complicated by a protest against cases of alleged illegal logging performed by IDEA.

In order to keep the review spoiler free we won't go into detail on whats causing the trouble but Investigators will be hard pressed on several fronts with the investigation and the protests. In the end, our group perished, but a happy ending is not impossible.

$4.00 for 27 pages providing us with a fun afternoon seems reasonable, so purchase a copy and have fun.

Dare to tempt fate?

Buckle up and prepare for what appears to be a fantastic 1920-era campaign by Jade Griffin. This installment comprises Chapters 1-4, but an additional 4 chapters are slated for release in 2025-2026.

Reading the 306-page compendium was a pleasure.
Jade has done extensive research, and I love her writing style.
The campaign has a supporting novel, which isn't mandatory reading, but I'm looking forward to diving into it once my TBR pile is slightly diminished.

The campaign has a ton of lovely tools to make running it smooth, with a great introduction and wonderful tips on inclusion.
Plenty of staging advice, amazing handouts, and custom tables for Bouts of Madness and how Fate influences Investigators who spend all their Luck are just a few of the things that make the campaign stand out uniquely.

With Pre-made Investigators and a character-focused plot, it is engaging and will provide players with very personal experiences while submitting them to newly created monsters, spells and talents.

While the 4 chapters can be purchased individually, I can't think of a single reason not to buy the combined compendium, and the sheer amount of material more than justifies the $21.99 cost. (or 45.99 for a printed copy)
Grab your own copy here and strap in for something extraordinary.

Id like to differ.

Its a good alternative to D&D if yoy want a Mythos inspired TTRPG with focus on moving miniatures on a tiled map.

It is an EXTREMELY pulped version of a Mythos rpgabnd you are taking on enemies, and defeating them, that would wreck a party in Call of Cthulh.

Would you care for a pipe of opium?

Cancelations for a game night happen from time to time, and our group is not immune to it either.
Fortunately, scenarios intended for a Keeper and 1-2 players exist, and Matthew Morris´ "Smoke on the Hungpu" was a godsend for this weekend as we found ourselves with a diminished group.
The scenario does include 4 pre-made Investigators, so it's also possible to run it at a higher playcount.

1930s Shanghai is an excellent setting for a Call of Cthulhu adventure. It´s hodgepodge of overlapping jurisdictions in a rapidly growing cosmopolitan with many active groups, legal as well as illegal, creates a chaotic ambience well suited to keep Investigators on their toes. Just make sure they steer clear of the opium dens.

The scenario was smooth to prepare and run due to the clear instructions, perfect handouts, and carefully curated information about China and Shanghai. It felt like the 32 pages contained more information than should be possible, and non-Euclidean geometry might have been used in its creation.
The provided soundtrack is an amazing touch to set the tone for each scene. If only more authors did this.

This is clearly a labour of love from Matt, and his extensive research and dedication are evident throughout the scenario.

After an intense playthrough, our group highly recommends it, and $4.99 is money well spent on this!

Would you like to have Arachnophobia?

If the answer is yes, please skip past the review and go straight to the link to purchase "Mount Katahdin's Shadow" by Christopher Capone.
If the answer is no, rest assured, this scenario will induce it anyway.

It´s 68 pages takes players on a wild ride in a nature-esque secluded location that should feel much more open than it does. In fact, we got a distinct claustrophobic experience out of our playthrough. While we spend close to 9 hours on the trail as a 4-player group, it can easily be structured to run as a single evening or convention event by the Keeper.

The provided cast of 7 Pre-made Investigators are light on personal detail, which allowed us to create our own group dynamic, but if used for a convention, the Keeper might want to flesh them out a bit on the personality side.

The scenario is well structured with clear and helpful notes for the Keeper, making for a smooth run. The linear structure of the scenario helps to keep everything on track without making it feel railroady.

None of us has been to the Appalachian Trail and apart from our Keeper, who is clearly insane, none of us wants to go there now.
We think you will understand why after playing it, so buy it as a gift for your Keeper and prepare for an amazing experience.

Alternatively, you could spend $6.95 on a can of bug spray, but what would be the fun in that?

Is this the real world?

Overtime, a stomach flu and nasty allergies meant last week was heavy on workload and light on time for prepping.
Fortunately, the Shattered Reality turned out to be just the right solution to the perfect storm of calamities.

The evocative cover drew us in. The title and the picture really set a tone that spoke to us, and the promise of short scenarios was the clincher!

The 86-page volume offers 7 scenarios, all set in a Modern era, but details on location are purposefully light, making them easy to insert seamlessly into almost any setting the Keeper deems fitting. While presented to be in America, they will be easy to adjust to other countries.

The Yellow Hand is the company behind this collection of scenarios, which appears to have been written predominantly by Jonas Morian and presents itself nicely.
Professional layout, a very distinct artistic style, and easy-to-use handouts and pre-made Investigators. While we are not entirely fans of the style the pre-gens sheets are in, they do have a unique design, and are pretty good for short introductory scenarios.

We played two of the scenarios in the collection and spent a total of 4½ hours on them. We were well entertained, absolutely LOVED "The Meeting Room of Madness" and will likely revisit the collection for some of the other scenarios.

The $9.99 cost is more than fair for the value of a collection that looks nice in PDF but is going to look stunning in print, so do us all a favour and help them reach Electrum by grabbing a copy here:

Would you like a juicy berry?

Robert Gresham shared his "Whispers from the Bramble´s Heart" with us, and after spending an evening playing it, eating raspberries will never be the same again!

The lovely cover by Eric Pommer drew us in and is a nice preview for this 32-page scenario. A classical era game, intended for August 1925, taking place in Gresham Oregon.
The late summer berry harvest presents a recipe ripe for disaster, tasking Investigators to save not only the town of Gresham but potentially also Portland, and who knows maybe the entirety of Oregon...

Intended for 3-4 Investigators, the scenario includes several suggestions on how to involve a group of players, but unfortunately does not include pre-made Investigators. We ran it with 5 players and didnt feel it upset the balance.
In our opinion it's suitable for all players perhaps with the exception of those suffering from Fructophobia.

The scenarios presentation is a respectful homage to the classic Chaosium style, supported by thematic lovely page borders.
It's easy to read and follow with well written suggestions on pacing, alternate avenues of investigation, potential outcome of the Investigators meddling and inspiration for follow up on the scenarios conclusion. This can potentially be used to build a small campaign around.

Do spend the $4.99 and discover why we are not going to eat raspberries any time soon!

Did they live happily ever after?

Unlike in fairytales, Call of Cthulhu scenarios may have a happy ending, but there are often some unseen, horrible consequences.
"Cthulhu Once Upon A Time" showcases this to perfection.

It´s a collaboration by a team of well-known, dare we say celebrities?,, Miskatonic Repository authors (Rina Haenze, John Hedge, Matt "Doc" Tracey, and Heather Ashcraft)
Ordinarily, we try to spread out our attention to benefit as many different authors as possible, so even though two of the four contributors have already featured in a review, the concept of COUAT is so unique that it deserves a spot anyway.

Fairytales in a Mythos setting are presented over the course of 4 scenarios, taking up 44 pages with 8 pre-generated Investigators, which can be used indiscriminately in the 4 scenarios. This is a fantastic idea, but do note that the sheets used are based on Cthulhu Dark Ages, so some skills may be a little different than what you are used to, but it's not too hard to get by without that particular sourcebook.

The idea is brilliant, and while the execution is not quite as sharp, detailed, and precise as we would have liked, it is such an interesting take that we can't help but love it.
Some Keeper work is required to really make the 4 fairytales shine, but for a Keeper who doesn't mind putting in a little effort, this is a fantastic way to take Call of Cthulhu off the beaten path!

The collection is worth the $12.99 for the read through alone, so do give it a look:

Are you ever truly alone?

A member of our team was abroad for work for two weeks. Long days and lone boring nights at a hotel brought him to the brink of his sanity.
Then Wade Lee´s Alone Against Nyarlathotep pushed him over it.

Promoting a Gold Best Seller product might seem unnecessary, but Anders was adamant that we had to let him praise this volume, and while we could have ignored his ranting in the straight jacket he wore, we didn't have the heart to do so.

Anders spent close to 25 hours, some of which should have been spent on sleep, bent over this massive 340-page volume of brilliant solo adventuring, and once he gets out of the asylum, we fear he´ll pour over it again.

A classic 1925 England location kicks off this epic solo adventure. It has fiendish puzzles, 8 pre-made Investigators, and is a tour de force against one of the Mythos' most devious entities.
It's richly illustrated by Lee himself with photos supporting the text, and his unique art style fits the theme perfectly.

The PDF is $18.99, but the cost is justified considering the sheer volume of material, and even though the Hardcover is priced at $58.99 (plus shipping), we would advise you to splurge and purchase it for the full and glorious experience.

More than 500 people purchased it, and if you haven't done so already, you ought to!

Fancy a quicky?

Last week has been a busy one for the entire team, and one of us even had to go abroad for work (Roll for Sanity)
Fortunately, Michael Reid came to the rescue with his Flash Cthulhu series, which is a stroke of genius in our modern time of juggling work, family, and hobbies.

Flash Cthulhu is aimed at the busy Keeper who needs something quick to prepare and run.
This is perfectly suited for a demonstration game, but in our opinion, it really shines as a palate-cleanser for a group of players between campaigns or systems, or in the instance that if a couple of regulars has to cancel on a session with short notice.

Rather than point out a specific scenario, we would like to guide you towards the bundle containing 12 of these wonderful little scenarios.
Each of them has everything you need in an easy-to-digest 6-page package.
Designed to be run in short 1-hour sessions, they are tightly and brilliantly written and even includes pre-gen Investigators!

Setting varies wildly in both location and year. Ranging from a 15000 BCE scenario (yes you read that right) to the classic era and into both modern and SF times.
Quite frankly there is something for everyone.

The bundle is less than $12 for at least 12 hours of fun, and we can't recommend it warmly enough. Grab your own copy of the bundle here:

Want to never go to New York again?

Harri Savolainen shared what appears to be his debut scenario, “The Menagerie of Forgotten Horrors” with us to our great delight.

It´s a whopping 108 pages of rich adventure set in the classical era.
From the serene streets of Greenwich, Connecticut, to the shadowy alleys of New York City, an experience containing dark family secrets and eldritch horrors awaits you.

Designed for 2 to 6 players, we played it with 5 Investigators over a long weekend, but most groups should likely expect to spend 3 sessions on what will be a rich and story-driven experience balancing investigation, tension, and horrific encounters perfectly.
We loved its atmosphere and interesting twists, which caught a few of the veterans by surprise.

With 29 pages of handouts and maps, six pre-generated Investigators, and an easy-to-read layout, the scenario is both immersive and well-organized.
We loved it and especially appreciated the cinematic feel.

$12 won't even get you two dozen eggs these days, so the money will be far better spent on this.

Ready for a curtain call?

John Hedge and his friends at The Miskatonic Playhouse kindly provided us with a reviewer copy of "Stage Fright at the Playhouse".
In addition to being known as a prominent member of The Miskatonic Playhouse John is also known for his Alpaca scenarios.

The scenario is 32 pages, set in 1923 Arkham, and our Investigators were tasked to uncover the secrets of the Miskatonic Playhouse.
What dark secrets we discovered we´ll keep to ourselves but we had a great time uncovering them.

Designed for three to five players, it can be run as a stand-alone adventure or as a sequel to Edge of Darkness (from the Call of Cthulhu Starter Set). We played it over a six-hour session with a group consisting of a mix of players, some familiar with Edge of Darkness and two who were not (they were given a resume of Edge of Darkness), and it was fun for us all.

The scenario’s balance of mystery, investigation, and tension kept us entertained and engaged throughout the 6ish hours of play.

As said Hedge is known for his lighter Alpaca scenarios, but this entry is in a far more serious tone, delving into themes of sibling loss, compulsion, and sanity breakdown. The well-structured layout, summaries, and timeline charts ensure a smooth experience for Keepers.

The scenario has a lovely production value with full-color handouts and maps, five pre-generated Investigators, and a new Mythos tome.
If you're looking for a well-organized and engaging mystery with a theatrical twist, this is absolutely a great pick and well worth its price tag of $5.49

Yo ho and a bottle of rum.

The prolific Rob Leigh provided us with "Fogbound", a 34-page scenario to enjoy, and we are pleased that he did so.

It's not specified how many players it should be run for. We ran it at a three-player count, and it would easily accommodate four or five players as well. It´s perfectly suited for a single session with a clear structure and good pace.

The scenario is well written to be used as an introduction to Call of Cthulhu, although we would have wished for pre-generated Investigators to be included. If used as an introduction scenario, the Keeper should prepare such ahead of time, especially taking into account the scenario is in a Modern setting.

Taking place in the southern part of England, it is a nice change of locale compared to many of the American-based scenarios.
Investigators are engaged to help locate a missing brother and will, throughout three scenes, realise that he is lost for very good reasons.
Cursed pirate treasures are buried for a reason ;)

Handouts are easy to decipher, and the production is on the printer-friendly side.

Ordinarily priced at an even $5.00, it is currently on sale for $3.00, during DTRPGS sale, which is a bargain for a good evening of fun.

Want to go for a swim?

"Together Again" appears to be Zachary Sokol´s first outing as a Miskatonic repository content creator and presents us with a 34-page scenario.

It's intended for 3-4 players, and our playthrough with 4 players lasted just shy of 4 hours.

The scenario is intended for a mature audience and deals with drowning, suicide, and loss of agency.

It takes place in 2024 Florida and deals with the aftermath of a young child drowning 10 years prior to the scenario's events.
Being set in Florida ofcourse there is an alligator ;)

The scenario has an ok production value but does need a little work on the editing side.
Maps, art, and handouts strike a good balance between being easy to read and creepy.

It was quite straightforward to run and has good roleplaying hooks for the 5 provided pre-gens.

Controversially priced at an even $5.00 instead of the usual 4.99 we found it worth its cost for a single horrific session of Call of Cthulhu.

Give it a chance at:

Is there hope?

"Hope´s End" is the cool 44-page debut scenario of Steen Stahlhut designed for four players, with an estimated playtime of 2-3 sessions.

We consider it a fine introductory scenario to showcase the importance of investigation in Call of Cthulhu while also presenting the overarching danger of forces beyond humanity's grasp.

Investigators are caught up in a small and remote New England town, , with disease and hopelessness besiegning the secluded area, and must find the cause of the town's malady.
The choice of a 1914 setting is initially unusual but makes sense upon closer inspection.

The scenario is nicely presented, with interesting Keeper information, four pre-generated Investigators, and 10 handouts to tell the tale of Hope's End.

The $3.49 price tag is more than fair for the value it provides.
