Most disability advocates are disabled people themselves.
They are struggling whilst trying to advocate for themselves and for others.

It’s okay to have time off, and disabled people shouldn’t bear the sole responsibility for fighting for survival in an ableist society.

As someone who has lived with health conditions for a long time, I can honestly say that, for me, false hope and "optimism" is far worse than simple honesty - even if that honesty is "There's nothing we can do"

Getting your hopes up only to have them dashed is soul destroying

Disabled people who cannot work already receive less than what is considered a survival amount of money in benefits in the UK.

Yet it seems many think even this is “too much”.

Because they are disgusting ghouls who want us dead.

Disability Rebellion and Crips Against Cuts will also be holding online protests at the same time for those who cannot attend in person.

Whilst the WCA urgently needs reforming, the Substantial Risk qualification route allows someone to qualify for protection from work activity requirements when it would cause significant risk, even if they don't meet the functional criteria of the WCA.

There's no equivalent in DL PIP

37. First, we will scrap the Work Capability Assessment (WCA). This will end the state categorising people into binary groups and labelling them as either 'can or can't work'. Instead, any extra financial support for health conditions in UC will be assessed via a single assessment - the PIP assessment - and be based on the impact of disability on daily living, not on capacity to work. [footnote 44] This will de-couple access to the health element in UC (current LCWRA rate referred to as UC health throughout) from work status, so people can be confident that the act of taking steps towards and into employment will not put their benefit entitlement at risk.
