Spike and Mum would have had a long walk to the Angel of the North on Tyneside. They also included (twice) the Sycamore Gap tree in Northumberland made famous in the Kevin Costner Robin Hood film, although it was senselessly murdered shortly after this filming.

Holy Island and its tidal access and causeway is all real, it had a famous medieval monastery but the Vikings kept plundering it and murdering the monks. Great place for English folk horror.
