Wait, Hegseth and his boss want a Qatari air force base in IDAHO?
This seems like a bad idea.
Unless you’re a bidness partner of the Qatari government. In which case it makes plenty of sense.
All of this is unnecessary.
We - all of us - should be focused on making life better for our neighbors and ourselves, not on worrying about the next random, dangerous foolishness that is going to rain down upon them and us.
It doesn’t have to be like this.
Pritzker.

(1/2) I don't know if boats being blown out of the water near Venezuela are carrying drugs or contain narco-terrorists. You don't know either. But we know that IF both things were true, our government (which lies incessantly), might share a sliver or two of evidence, at least with Congress.

The people of Arizona’s 7th are patiently waiting, Speaker Johnson.
Are you feeling triggered by Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift? I have great news for you! Both Pat Boone and Anita Bryant are available for streaming.

Be assured there will be other impacts. This is the first, and it is real.
03.10.2025 21:13 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Today a reporter asked me how the Trump Shutdown affects the City of Gainesville. My answer was that federal workers who live in our community won’t get paid.
Hear that clearly: Working families are doing without because this Republican Congress can’t pass a budget.
That is shameful.
Gainesville, FL is the (Blue) regional population, jobs, health and education center for 7 surrounding counties. There are 5 members of our state legislative delegation, which sounds great until you know that 4 of those 5 live in the surrounding (Red) counties. We are what gerrymandering looks like.

You can support it for the entirely selfish reason that YOU are less likely to get sick if everyone else is also healthy.

Lessons we’re going to learn from places like Memphis:
- It’s easy for Big Bad soldiers to make a lot of flashy arrests.
- It’s going to be easy for defense lawyers to beat those charges following poorly-trained arrests.
- Local taxpayers will foot the bill for all those screwed-up arrests.
The last time the federal government shut down there was also a Republican-majority House and Senate and a Republican White House.
If you elect people who believe government is a bad idea, they will govern accordingly.
I know my team doesn’t get answers when we ask questions like this, yet I’m asking anyway:
How much did that stupid-ass “All Generals” gimmick this morning cost us?
The WaPo keeps trying to bring me back as a subscriber. Today the offer is forty bucks a year.
Free would be too much.
As with any ad-based publication, the real product is me. My clicks, my views. I want them to feel economic pressure to fix the trust they broke.
So I will keep saying no.
Here in the City of Gainesville we passed our balanced budget with plenty of time to spare as we do every year.
We will continue serving our nearly 150,000 neighbors seamlessly when the clock strikes midnight to take us into a new fiscal year.
As for the federal government? 🤷♂️
Schools, amusement parks, movie theaters, churches. And the cycle repeats again today.
When will we have had enough?
Lord have mercy.
It’s the Republican-controlled US federal government that may shut down.
The City of Gainesville and Alachua County have PASSED our balanced budgets, and like cities and counties across America, we are open and here to serve you.
If the federal government shuts down this week people will be actively harmed.
It’s that simple.
And the people doing the harm will be the people who hold the majority in the US House and the US Senate. In other words, the Republican Party.

But it seems like he thought the US of A had enduring value as an idea as well as an institution.
The current guy does not seem to share that thought.
This is a bigger deal than a lot of folks understand. The clear intent is to discourage Democratic candidates from ever becoming candidates.
