This happened twice now and I'm wondering if I'm too easily impressed by counterintuitive results.

But then again, can you blame me, when most other assignments are about getting 1 percent increase on sentiment classification datasets.

Paper: We find this really interesting counterintuitive behavior. We characterized it, looked at the dynamics and possible causes, and offered solutions and discussion on its consequential impacts.

My worst fears that have been keeping me up for months have become real for some people just because they chose the wrong time to go to their dream program.

And do people (reviewers, ACs, SACs, PCs) actually take these into account? I know reviewers often have very little incentive to care, and I think it would be similar to the others.

I guess it's just there for when someone raises ethical concerns?

They tell me the problem of the pokeable cardboard boxes is incredibly important. After all, cardboard boxes are used ubiquitously for all kinds of items.

Except important things, of course, you would want a safe for those.

But maybe cardboard boxes can get so good they can be used as safes.

Some believe that with enough cardboard, the box can be impenetrable. Some boast about specialized screwdrivers that can poke boxes efficiently. Some propose using layers of tape, which can be put around the box to interfere with said screwdrivers. Some are proposing to put the box in another box.

Box manufacturers may believe this is a problem, and modify their designs to be "pokeproof". The box may be fortified so that using your fingers to force through is no longer worth attempting. Yet even the new design would not fare against the screwdriver. A cardboard box is still a cardboard box.

On red teaming and jailbreaking.

Trying to poke a hole into a cardboard box isn't trivial, but it isn't exactly hard either. If one was dedicated to push hard enough, they'd find that it is very much doable. This would also become much easier when one was properly equipped, say, with a screwdriver.
