03.07.2025 23:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This happened twice now and I'm wondering if I'm too easily impressed by counterintuitive results.
But then again, can you blame me, when most other assignments are about getting 1 percent increase on sentiment classification datasets.
Paper: We find this really interesting counterintuitive behavior. We characterized it, looked at the dynamics and possible causes, and offered solutions and discussion on its consequential impacts.
Me: wow based this is 4.5/5
That one other reviewer: lol whom cares 2.5/5
Bro beefing with openreview

27.06.2025 05:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Strengths:
Rigorous experiments thoroughly demonstrate performance improvements.
Weaknesses:
The first paragraph failed to mention a sentence on how the advent of LLMs have revolutionized the field of NLP.
Soundness: 1.5/5
Strengths:
Proposed framwork is novel, highly effective, and supported by extensive experiments.
Weakness:
Framework name is a forced acronym that doesnt work (what does the second E stand for??)
Soundness: 2/5
My social media feeds: AI has now become PhD-level experts and will replace all human workers as early as this year.
My ARR review papers: We create an innovative approach, harnessing the power of LLMs, to perform sentiment classification on movie reviews.
Apple's reasoning paper is attracting lots of bad takes from people who didn't and won't read it.
I mean I didn't and won't read it either but still.
Can you tell that I really wanted to visit Vienna

My worst fears that have been keeping me up for months have become real for some people just because they chose the wrong time to go to their dream program.
23.05.2025 01:11 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And do people (reviewers, ACs, SACs, PCs) actually take these into account? I know reviewers often have very little incentive to care, and I think it would be similar to the others.
I guess it's just there for when someone raises ethical concerns?
This did not age well...
19.05.2025 07:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yet a cardboard box is still a cardboard box.
19.05.2025 04:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They tell me the problem of the pokeable cardboard boxes is incredibly important. After all, cardboard boxes are used ubiquitously for all kinds of items.
Except important things, of course, you would want a safe for those.
But maybe cardboard boxes can get so good they can be used as safes.
Some believe that with enough cardboard, the box can be impenetrable. Some boast about specialized screwdrivers that can poke boxes efficiently. Some propose using layers of tape, which can be put around the box to interfere with said screwdrivers. Some are proposing to put the box in another box.
19.05.2025 04:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Box manufacturers may believe this is a problem, and modify their designs to be "pokeproof". The box may be fortified so that using your fingers to force through is no longer worth attempting. Yet even the new design would not fare against the screwdriver. A cardboard box is still a cardboard box.
19.05.2025 04:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0On red teaming and jailbreaking.
Trying to poke a hole into a cardboard box isn't trivial, but it isn't exactly hard either. If one was dedicated to push hard enough, they'd find that it is very much doable. This would also become much easier when one was properly equipped, say, with a screwdriver.
