This one gets the prize for the best cover of the year so far. It will be hard to beat during the rest of the year.

Eve's eyes sparkled. She was enthralled w/ these beautiful rainbow drops turned almost iridescent beings. Each being radiated a natural joy & curiosity, not unlike a tiny human being. Eve and Giovanni could feel the expansive love now present in the room.
"Here is the change we need," sighed Eve.

Eve was gobsmacked. The artwork was brilliant, in more ways than one. That golden yellow bathed the room in warmth and hope. To look at the painting was to know that all was good in the world.
"Giovanni," Eve whispered, "Your magic is what we need."
"Ah," responded Giovanni. "You mean OUR magic."

My #sundaysentence this week is a black basket-weaver, a sharecropper's daughter, observing Confederate reenactors in South Carolina in the late 1990s: "They can remember that war all they want," she said, "so long's they remember they lost."

Amen!

Lucky! I'm #63 on the list but the library is buying 56 copies so not too long....

That was among my top three reads of last year (maybe the top but, you know, it's hard to name THE best!).

The cover notes the book was 2020 winner Novel of the Year from the Irish Book Awards. The background cover color is black with reddish- cream flower images, and praising quotes.

Wake up, wake up, the world is hard and it rushes on regardless of your heart, and people never take the shape you want them to, people are stubborn about that, about being themselves, even when they're trying to be someone else. #SundaySentence, Donal Ryan, Strange Flowers. Gorgeous novel.

Love Kingsolver (fave is The Lacuna) but never got to this one until now. My #sundaysentence: "Is it evil to look at your child, then heft something else in your arms and turn away?" Runner-up: "You know things are bad when a woman without any legs who lost two of her own kids feels sorry for you."

I've been a fan of B Kingsolver since I first read her Bean Trees. I don't think I've missed any of her books but Bean Trees? Still my fav.

Giovanni looked in amazement at the small brush in his hand. That this wondrous connection existed amazed and intrigued him. All paint brushes are magic. He knew that. But maybe this one has a unique blend of magic?
Giovanni looked up at Eve.
"May I try out the canvas?" he asked.

A rose? In January? Yes!

The whole notion of travel. Pre pandemic, I enjoyed travel. Now, between the manipulations of the airlines, the crowded and over scheduled airports, the cost of travel, and the possible health risks, I think too much about if I want to travel or not.
