I've finally given up on my vow to set up my real work setup once I unpacked my house (it's been a year) and excavated all my stuff barricaded behind boxes. It's so weird to use a real keyboard and _two_ monitors

I woke up early today and apparently it's "what's the point of humanities" time again.
Even as a STEM major who went to a pure engineering school, I will defend "pointless majors" to my dying breath. They might not be lucrative, but they are important context for "useful" professions

I love my QA, but seriously how do they find some of these bugs?
Today's nightmare: well if you take these 8 steps, you'll then find that saving happens in this specific part of the form on hover even though no changes have been made

If bluesky had AP federation and turned it on, I think half the fediverse would defederate immediately, and the remaining half would start defederating each other based on whether they decided to federate with bluesky or not

Speed and strength definitely come into play in basketball. How high you can jump and how fast you can move are important.
I picked basketball because it wasn't as obviously physical, but physical prowess ultimately excludes even those who have good traits like height.

I find these kinds of discussions tedious because of word choice policing. It's like if I had talk about birds by always specifying if I was talking about flightless or flightful birds.
It's burning allies for no reason. It makes people who would speak up stay quiet for fear of being attacked.

This is why my stance is kind of "well... let's see what kind of difference it makes first" everything right now is conjecture and allowing to me is better than banning π€·ββοΈ

That's fair. I certainly don't know where we should draw the line. I just have a set of observations. Sports are inheritantly unfair. People are always cut out and everyone is salty about that reality. I think if people could reasonably lobhy for a height max in basketball they would lol.

Differences appear earlier. Women just never seem to be able to overcome early adulthood males. Early adulthood females are not equal to early adulthood males. That's just how it is for sports.
Women are superior to men in some other ways and even sports we dont typically think of as sports

I think you are looking to be angry. It has never been my stance that we ban transpeople from doing anything. I even have a post saying I don't know why we care in grade school.
20.09.2023 15:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
I have never stated that I wanted transwomen banned. I don't understand why people care so much.
I'm just stating a truth that maleness has an advantage. It is also my feeling that women's divisions exist so that women get to compete at all. What we do about it at the Olympic level, I don't know
20.09.2023 15:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
And women definitely cannot match men. This has been proven time and time again. Women cap out at around the level of men's early college ability. There's not shame in that. Women are survivors and we survive shit that kills men. The biological purpose is just different.
20.09.2023 15:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
I definitely know that being born male gives an advantage. When they used to do testing, they found a significant amount of women Olympic champions were intersexed. What I'm not sure about is if early hormones negate that. We don't know for a generation
20.09.2023 15:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 4 π 0
I'll be honest, I'm not sure that transwomen wouldn't have an advantage at like Olympics type level, but why cares in grade school? And I personally am willing to let transwomen do their thing and see. No different than before we knew if several things gave an advantage or not.

That said, I'm very suspicious about some sports like gymnastics. The physical superiority seems to tilt to women and maybe I need to warch more to get it, but why isn't that a female dominated sport?
20.09.2023 14:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
Some sports are purely or mostly physical. Archery is about accuracy only, whereas basketball has an element of accuracy, but physical ability and build can negate almost all skill based things. In situations where skill can be negated completely by sex-chararistics we should probably have a split

20.09.2023 14:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
I'm not certain that after puberty women could ever defeat men in sports that require physical prowess. Women's divisions exist so women can play sports. The football is an example of what happens when women's divisions don't exist. I do wonder why stuff like archery have gender divisions though.
