It is possible to cherish the BBC as an institution while also saying that BBC News is failing very badly, day after day, in its duty to inform and that it always fails in a right-wing direction. It desperately needs to recover its integrity

Absolutely !!!insane!!! to me that the UK government, lobby and newspapers litigate at length every minor infraction by the BBC, rival newspapers, or what some random columnist has posted. But all of them just carry on not even commenting about this media owner. He’s not hiding, he’s telling you!

Police are not using live facial recognition in its policing of the 'Unite the Kingdom' demonstration which is beginning on London's south bank, reports the PA news agency.
It said:
β€’ We're using a mobile CCTV van to help monitor the build up of crowds. Officers have been asked if it's using 'live facial recognition' - we can confirm it is not.
The live facial recognition technology - which captures people's faces in real-time CCTV
cameras - was used in the policing operation at the Notting Hill carnival.

Would have thought it well worth the police using facial recognition technology on the Yaxley-Lennon match, just to catch up with all the child support deadbeats, warrant evaders, probation violators and criminal suspects who are going to be there.

They may not call for violence the same way the right does in US social media but the drumbeat of dehumanisation over the last 10 years is still terrible, and they have a bigger megaphone.

I there's one lesson of the last few days for the US it's the government and BBC journos need to get off X.

My main observation from the last few hours of monitoring US social media is that Democrats are universally denouncing political violence and calling for calm while MAGA are escalating language and openly lusting for retribution against broad categories of people they identity as their enemies.

This doubly telling because
1) being totally batshit on the internet as a British MP can now give you a 50% uplift on an MP's salary! bit of a worrying incentive!
2) being one of the most shared politicians on X only earns you Β£40k, meaning most of the blue ticks are debasing themselves for pennies

If Rayner had set out to minimise her tax bill, she could have waited til her son turned 18 before buying the Hove house. She didn't because she wasn't trying to minimise her tax bill.

If I had time - or a BBC-sized team - I'd assemble all the Daily Mail front pages hysterically celebrating the Tories doing all the things that left the country in the mess that the paper is now moaning about & somehow trying to blame on, *checks notes*, Keir Starmer. They even worshipped Liz Truss!

"I understand it is normally the role of opposition leaders to jump up and down and call for resignations – as we’ve seen plenty of from the Conservatives already.

Obviously if the ethics advisor says Angela Rayner has broken the rules, her position may well become untenable.

But as a parent of a disabled child, I know the thing my wife and I worry most about is our son’s care after we have gone, so I can completely understand and trust that the deputy prime minister was thinking about the same thing here.

Perhaps now is a good time to talk about how we look after disabled people and how we can build a more caring country."

When I was at Anglia TV about 25 yrs ago, a girl in our office sent out a team email that said, β€œIt’s been a crap Monday, who wants to come to my flat for a smoke?” Sadly she sent it to everyone in ITV. Melvyn was one of the first to reply with β€œThat sounds lovely but sadly I’m filming in Newcastle”

WHY DO political
interviewers keep trying to
make MPs look like out-of-touch
bellends by asking them if they
know the price of a loaf of bread?
And, knowing they are almost
certainly going to be asked that
question on national TV, why don't
MP's ever find out the approximate
price of a loaf of bread, so they
don't keep looking like out-of.
touch bellends? They're as bad as
each other.
