Though I have in the past very much respected your voice and actions, both as leader and before, that you would call out the likes of Dexter and Jasmine Crockett looks to me like exactly the kind of dithering, weak leadership that has allowed oligarchs to seize the levers of power in our government.

I hear that you, the Minority Whip, and Caucus Chair conducted a "come to Jesus" meeting with "disruptive" members of the Democratic Caucus regarding their behavior at the President's address this past week, advising them that their behavior is "bad strategy."

Like seductive death, like the monster, Nosferatu, the voice in "Baby Blue" calls to the maiden to sacrifice herself. Why is this the message we're getting for the new year? "Strike another match, go start anew..."

"Baby Blue" is the last song we see Chalamet's Dylan perform live in the film (as it was the rather loaded conciliatory gesture he offered to the enraged audience after his electric set at Newport).

Oates's original working title for her story was "Death and the Maiden." But JCO also dedicated her story to Bob Dylan (the subject of A COMPLETE UNKNOWN), and wrote that she was specifically inspired by his song "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue."

JCO's story concerns a teenage girl, Connie, who is stalked by monstrous figure to whom she seemingly has to sacrifice herself to assure the safety of her family. This is essentially the plot of NOSFERATU and the idea behind depictions of Death and the Maiden generally.

These films aren't just linked their stars, former lovers Timothée Chalamet and Lily-Rose Depp, but by Joyce Carol Oates's breakthrough short story "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been."

I have yet to see anyone point out this curious connection between two of the big Christmas Day cinema releases this year: A COMPLETE UNKNOWN and NOSFERATU (more in comments)...
