I agree that sustained teaching matters enormously, but I’m not sure “inspiration” is the right thing to dismiss here. External speakers often do different epistemic work than teachers who are constrained inside institutional norms. Those moments for students can have surprisingly long half-lives.

This is a strong article and I recommend reading it.
Let’s be honest. ICE functions as a distraction. While outrage is focused there, the administration continues siphoning public money through contracts, donors, & corruption. Patterns that many including @kenklippenstein.bsky.social have shown.

If you want people to think critically while dismissing history and philosophy as useless, you fundamentally misunderstand what critical thinking is.

There are at least 85 ICE-related bills in nationwide state legislatures as Democratic lawmakers in red and blue states like alike are moving ahead on their own. What states accomplish could offer insight into midterm elections.

U.S. government has lost more than 10,000 STEM Ph.D.s since Trump took office
A Science analysis reveals how many were fired, retired, or quit across 14 agencies
A recent Science analysis shows the US has lost more than 10,000 STEM Ph.D.s since Trump took office, with agencies shedding scientists and researchers across the board.
To borrow from Hamilton: breaking things is easy. Rebuilding is harder.

DHS Is Lying To You About ICE Shooting a Woman
At least four videos show what really happened when ICE shot a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday. DHS has established itself as an agency that cannot be trusted to live in or present reality.
THREAD: 404 Media has been covering ICE and the technology they've been using to surveil and raid "targets", detain people based on a flawed facial recognition app, and lie about violence on the streets.
They have established itself as an agency that cannot be trusted to live in or present reality.

States Want to Know: Why Does the DOJ Want Their Voter Rolls, Really?
Read more here.
@marcelias Democracy Docket suggests the strategy is to compare voter rolls to SAVE, an unproven citizenship-check system.
In close elections, discarding 3,000 votes can be outcome-determinative if they can justify it procedurally.

This is interesting. This also explains why individual media literacy can’t solve the problem. No amount of ‘critical thinking’ counters an environment that pre-structures choice.

This Should Make You Very Angry
Noticing a pattern: creators like MoistCr1TiKaL (24 million followers)—who’ve been deliberately apolitical for years—are starting to speak out. When people whose incentive is neutrality move, it’s often a signal that the pendulum is shifting.
