I *think* it’s because I know many many people named Patrick (and Patricia for that matter) and they all go by Pat, so it just feels automatic?

I have a bad habit of automatically shortening Patrick to Pat, I don’t think i do it with other names, but I catch myself with that one a lot for some reason
