Together, we started making plans for water survival infrastructure and skill-building offerings at Richmondβs mutual aid hubs. We also collectively renovated and installed a solar-powered 1500 gallon rainwater catchment system at Dogbane Movement Hub to build hands-on experience. β€οΈβπ₯

Alongside partner organizations including Mutual Aid Disaster Relief and Living Energy Lights, we reflected on the precarious state of water systems highlighted by the Richmond water crisis in January which left most of the cityβs 230,000+ residents without drinkable tap water for 6 days. π§

Why the Texas floods were so severe
Flooding rains in and around Kerr County had brought a widespread 10 to 15 total inches by Friday morning. Four months of rainfall came down in four hours.
Tragedy in Texas hill country, where 4 monthsβ worth of rain in just four hours caused Guadalupe River levels to spike 30 feet in just an hour and a half - in the middle of the night.
