The drive should have two sata connectors (power and data) but it could also be IDE. If you don't have any cables you can get usb connectors on amazon, although if it is IDE then make sure you get the right type, as 3.5" drives have different connectors than 2.5" drives

Most (all?) external drives are just standard internal drives in a housing with a board to convert them to usb (pic is one from one of my HDDs since it was cheaper as an external drive). If you can open it without damaging it then it's worth a shot taking it out and putting it in a desktop

Bonus pic: The wood strips (cut down tongue depressors) are glued on with UV resin, but I couldn't find my UV lamp, so I made this little curing lamp as a kind of baby's first electrical project. I am very much a beginner so I was surprised that it worked first try.

I didn't put walls to stop the phone sliding because I thought if it works well I could watch videos on my steam deck which has a bigger screen, but it's a lot wider than my phone. If slipping is an issue I could make a silicone mat or something to add grip.

The white plastic forms the frame of the object, and the wooden strips form an angled platform so that a phone or other device placed on top will be held at an angle where the screen can be comfortably seen by the user. There are protrusions from the frame below the wooden platform to prevent the phone from sliding off the bottom.

My old phone is placed on top to demonstrate how the object holds it in a comfortable angle for watching videos while using the bike

Problem: Exercise is both boring and tiring and I would probably do more of it if it was just tiring
Solution: Make a phone holder for this old stationary bike so I can watch youtube videos
I made the top out of wood to make it less slippy so hopefully the phone won't slip off sideways

I like it but it's really hard to get here, it seems like a few shops get like 6 bottles in once or twice a year

I got that process from an absolutely terribly written guide on reddit but I know from experience it works at least.
About a year ago I spilled a full pint of beer on it and other than one key needing a bit of contact cleaner it's worked perfectly ever since

The fix for this is kinda scary because of water, but the steps are:
1) Immediately unplug keyboard
2) Disassemble it and wash it with water, press all the keys to clean the switches
3) Blast it with canned air to dry
4) Put it in a box with desiccant for a few days to completely dry
5) Reassemble
