I'd be so tempted to go in the other direction, with wizards stockpiling calories and weight during down periods and then ending up skinny after expending all the energy they'd saved in casting spells.

Orcs being an exothermic species is actually really neat. And it flips a lot of the original Tolkien orcs being allergic to sunlight on its head in an interesting way. Might also explain them being drawn to more volcanic environments also, which is something I see happening a lot in fantasy
