This is outrageous and a direct result of President Trump’s rhetoric that emboldens Americans to turn on their neighbors. My Stop Excessive Force in Immigration Act would require the DOJ to report on how they’re working to stop these dangerous impersonation attempts.

I'm very radical right now about taking power away from the president. Some of these pardons and amnesties are worthy. Maybe Congress can actually get off its duff and do them through legislation. I think it would be very good for our politics to adopt the premise that Congress should do stuff.

If we have that much power, we should impeach. At the very least, Thomas for corruption and Kavanaugh for having an entire major violation of the Fourth Amendment named after him.

This, by the way, is the main reason I'm running for Congress.

We need this kind of reform to renew the Constitution and fix the weak spots Trump revealed. But people aren't thinking very clearly about it, so they're proposing all sort of half-measures. Not enough Madisons.

The parts that hold up are the parts that say the president can't do something until Congress acts to give him permission. The parts that hold up even better give independent power to someone other than the president.

One of those lessons is that anything that says, "The president can do something unless Congress shows massive initiative to undo it," is a part that's gonna break. In practice, it will just be a grant of power to the president.

I've been saying that Donald Trump is America's national crash test dummy. He does what a crash test dummy does: He runs the system into a wall, so we can see what parts hold up and what parts break. We need to learn those lessons.

This is a start but still kind of weak. When a strong executive bullies his party, it can be impossible to get 2/3 to override. The pardon power should be taken from the president entirely and given to an independent board with members appointed by both houses of Congress and the president.
