My research was with a parachurch founded by a famous televangelist who believed that (1) for Jesus to return, Israel had to be in the hands of the Jews and (2) wealth was a sign of God’s favor. So expect a large portion of American Christians to see this as a good idea.

Lindsay Raisa Feldman is an anthropologist who did her PhD fieldwork with many of these incarcerated firefighters, and her research is fascinating. Worth a listen!

In my Anthropology of Law class this semester I asked the students to design their ideal social order and legal system. Thinking about cultural ideologies, power/discipline, and social institutions, each student independently concluded an equitable system is unsustainable if billionaires exist.

Do… do I teach about this in the class about gender? Ecology? Colonial culture? Kinship? Late-stage industrial capitalism? The Anthropocene? Symbolism? Ritual?
