The day started with tragedy with political violence in MN and instead of being scared, neighbors SHOWED UP to stand together at No Kings Twin Cities. We packed the Capitol Mall all the way to the Cathedral. Estimate 80,000+ right now. So proud of our state. #nokings #indivisible

I read on some national and international news websites that the No Kings rally in St Paul today was cancelled... but, having been there, I can assure you that it was not cancelled, and that there were many, many people there (MPR is currently reporting an estimate of 25 to 30 K).

Despite warnings from the law enforcement not to attend today’s No Kings rally after this mornings shooting of Minnesota lawmakers with the killer on the lose, the No Kings Rally is happening at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul.

Melissa Hortman, who was assassinated last night, was the Speaker of the Minnesota House in the 2023-2024 session, when Democrats ran the state government.

That means she had a leading role in shepherding the many landmark reforms that Dems adopted in that period—an important legacy. Brief 🧵.

I handed in my ID badge at the hospital after my shift today... which means that for the first time in over 20 years (with the exception of a few months when I moved to Minnesota), I am not employed as an interpreter. 😦😧

So, long story made short, the schedule and role and duties and patterns I've been used to for more than a decade are being radically shifted, and there's a lot to process and get used to.

... I have 1.5 shifts left to work there. I'm really sad to be leaving that job, but a full time job as a dean would not leave me time to work at the hospital as well.

I'll start my new job as an interim dean on June 4th.

So that's all the news that's been in the works lately. ...

... in interpreter training and education in various ways, including the noncredit offerings that the college will offer.

The other big change coming out of all of this is that I have resigned my position as a per diem interpreter at Children's Minnesota, where I have been for thirteen years. ...

... an administrator, overseeing several departments and taking an active role in college leadership.

After 14 years teaching in and later leading my program, it will be a big change. While I'm sad about the program being closed, I am excited about the new opportunity and will still be involved ...

The second piece of the big change for me is that there have been some changes in our administrative leadership, as part of that I have been appointed as an interim dean for the next year. I'll still get to teach my last couple of classes of current students, but will also be...

... it hurts and is a massive and difficult change for the community (and for me, as well). I've also had to say "sorry, no, you can't register for fall" to a bunch of excited prospective students, which has been difficult.

The continuing education part is promising, though, and I look forward...
