20.10.2025 01:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is the first autumn in 5 years without new episodes of #StarTrekLowerDecks.π’ Man, I really miss the show!!! It always made me laugh (I need that now!) and it had the deepest and most outrageous callbacks. Plus: it showed that it IS totally okay to talk about chairs on starships - I feel heard!
17.10.2025 16:01 β π 296 π 44 π¬ 13 π 6Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries: "It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones. "There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion. "If, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the 'medicine closet' and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That's why you should always have a nutrition choice! "Those who buy only one book, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to books, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love books know that a book is anything but a commodity."

Rest in peace, Drew Struzan. His movie posters are much more than marketing. They're some of the finest pop art you'll ever see. Look at this masterpiece:

14.10.2025 16:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Right now I like almost everything that was shown in trailers. What I didn't care about are those "contemporary US university" esthetics they were projecting on early promos. "Branded" sweatshirts with logos, small university flags, even the font on early logo was very generic US college style.

29.09.2025 19:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Controversial Star Trek opinion:
Starfleet as a vehicle for storytelling is played out
The franchise hints at Starfleet not being so virtuous, then has its characters drink the Kool-Aid anyway. DS9, PIC s1-2, PRO scratched the surface of stories about every day people, there's way more to tell
On its birthday, share one image from your favorite TNG episode.

Writer Bo Yeon Kim (Boey) and Writer Ted Sullivan with Jason Gorn figure at the premiere
And of course, we had to have a mirror universe version of him named Jason Scorn. Shown here in an alternate Vasquez rocks with the Terran empire symbol behind him.
If you remember early #StarTrekDiscovery production, writer Ted Sullivan (shown here holding Jason) was admonished by CBS for showing a green screen, as if somehow that ruined the magic for fans. So he created something that he could post, Jason Gorn! It kind of had a life of its own for a while.

23.09.2025 17:52 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Seeing another post lamenting US TV doesn't do 26 episode seasons for most things any more is always going to be funny to me because, having read so many books on the making of things like 90s Trek, it's very clear the people making those shows fucking hated that system at the time.
