Of course teachers know about poverty. They have been underpaid for decades. Many have to get part time jobs to support themselves and families. In HCOL areas schools have trouble hiring teachers because the pay still isn't enough for teachers to live in or near their school districts.

Never tell a public school teacher that they have no experience. We don’t learn about poverty, hunger, homelessness, crime, and social justice from a book.

We face these issues head on every day in our classrooms.
