It’s so annoying! Multiple episodes just completely gone and it’s so hard to get the correct information to stick! Legit don’t get why it’s the standard either

almost forgot! Some keycaps might not be compatible with certain switches so it's important to take note! Cherry MX style (has the little +) is usually the safest bet for having huge compatibility with most switches, but just make sure you double check before buying new keycaps to match your switch!

i hear ya. I'm a smooth brain though so I love linears. I built one with silent alpacas while filming and lubing each one. But now I'm usin' the Feker Marble White Linear Switches. The sound is good but the switches die out sometimes and i have to put in a new one lol

One last thing! Even if you have all the wonderful materials you desired and made the perfect keyboard, it will sound terrible without a deskmat. So don't go crazy expensive if you wouldn't be able to get a deskmat lol

HOWEVER if it says it's HOTSWAP, it means the switches aren't soldered to Printed Circuit Board. That means you can take those NASTY BLUE SWITCHES IN THE TRASH and put in whatever one you like!!! To me, this is the most desirable option for any keyboard I'm considering

If you wanna go ham, you can build your keyboard entirely yourself. But there's also a ton more prebuilts that do a majority of the hard work for you, but still allow combustibility.

Like let's say you LOVE everything about a keyboard but it comes with BLUE CLICKY switches (EW)...

but back to material. The most common material you'll see is ABS and PBT. While both have advantages and disadvantages, ABS's major drawback is it wears to be slippery and shiny. And if the text on the caps were dye-sub on ABS, they can completely wear away. PBT's is that it's more expensive

If you see a keycap that says it's Double Shot, it means when two plastics are molded together to form one keycap.

If it's a Pudding keycap then it's a type of double shot keycap that are designed to allow the light to shine through the legend and also through the sides of the keycap

While some might say the type of plastic affects it, i mainly notice differences with height and thickness. So if you're going for a deeper sound, you'd probably want thick and tall keycaps at least in my experience

And then there's keycaps! 3 things to consider: height, curvature and material. When you see a height chart like this, this is what the curve looks like if you started at the keycaps in profile. If you don't like the feel of a super noticeable dip, you might wanna go for more low profile caps

or if you'r a sick FREAK (aka me), you can get custom aviator cables!!! They come in various colors and textures!

Do you like a minimal desk? Then you'll probably want a keyboard that's wireless. You're in luck because a lot of keyboards now have not just bluetooth but wireless receivers you can plug into your PC! You'll just have to charge it with a cable every now and again

Depending on the case though, you might wanna pull out some if its completely blocking out the sound with 5 layers like the previous image lol. Also remembering if you like to type higher or at an angle means you might look for keyboard that adjustable feet or built at an angle

The case for your keyboard can also affect sound! Plastic, clear acrylic, aluminum, and even wood cases can enhance or even change how a switch sounds. Even if some materials don't seem like they would be great, they could make up for it with sound dampening!

Switches also play a big part for sound and feel! This gif is a good explanation of the main types. You can also type the keyboard/switch you're considering to get a feel for how it might sound! (bias: buy clicky if you want everyone in your house to hate you)

it would also be worth noting how tall you prefer to type. Like if you don't like lifting your fingers high, you'd probably prefer a low profile keyboard like this instead of a taller traditional board and it'll also help determine how tall to make your keycaps!
