I joined the editorial team of an amazing journal committed to equity work. I'm surprised and disappointed: assistant professors say yes to reviews, and associate and full professors decline or donโt respond. Everyone is busy. But if youโve climbed the academic ladder, steady it for others.

Maybe I'm off topic by pointing this out. I went to U Idaho from 2002 - 2005 and this kind of extremist stuff was all over even then. The article's point that it seems more systematic now is profound, but conservative attacks on higher ed in the state have a looooonnngg history.

They say "If NIC goes under, students will either need to pay out-of-state tuition in nearby Spokane, Washington, move south, or abandon their aspirations of higher education" Pullman WA is an 8 minute bike ride away from Moscow and it has community colleges on the WSU campus

Cute black and white dog with a yellow tennis ball at his feet
I just donated to Pasadena Humane Society in honor of my best buddy, Kozmo who passed last March. If you have the means, see if you can help too, as they support those who can't evacuate with their four-legged family members!

The Lie That Won't Die
Why We're Still Talking About Autism and Vaccines
My latest on the lie that won't die, and why we're still talking about autism and vaccines.
Tracing the history back to "refrigerator mothers," I argue that to answer this question, we have to grapple with our culture of mother-burden and mother-blame.

Beyond the math wars: Focus on teachers to improve instruction - Kappan Online
To achieve in math, students need teachers equipped with the knowledge, skills, and mindsets to do and teach math well.
Can the the "math warriors" lay their weapons down? Rachel McClam and I wax poetic in this Kappan piece.
Thanks @clconaway.bsky.social and EdResearch for Action for encouraging me to branch out and coauthor this piece!

May ease flow toward you.ย
May you give yourself the gift of boundaries.ย
When you get pulled in a million directions, may you discover the gift of cutting strings.
I will read it again every day in 2024
