Because a historian's conclusions on genetics are of less value than those of a geneticist. If results from genetics contradicted the view of historians, it's the latter that would be subject to greater scrutiny.

Lots of things may seem "obvious". Without proof, what's obvious to you is of no more value than what's obvious to a racist.
