I’m so, so sorry. I can’t fathom what you’re going through. But I’ve been in that headspace before (SI + insomnia) and one of the things that has helped me is just—intentionally doing something kind for myself? Like, hot shower with my favourite music playing, then putting on my nicest lotion (cont)

K, so my favourite thing about writing sci-fi horror is having funky lil weirdo characters for whom facing space horrors is slightly less intimidating than small talk with people they don’t know and “is it going to eat us?” is a less terrifying question than “are you guys mad at me?”

I love avocados. I’m less enamoured by the fact you have an approximately 30 minute window in which they are the correct amount of ripe.

Oh, I definitely edit—my first drafts are messy. 😂 I do several rounds of edits, 2+ rounds of beta reader and/or editor feedback, then more edits. I’m usually on draft 7-8 before I have something I’m ready to publish. I’m just adhd and hyperfocus on my writing and draft a lot of words per day. 😛

This is what I thought journalism could be when I studied it a bajillion years ago in college. I’m no longer in journalism, but I’m so proud of the (mostly independent) papers and journalists still dedicated to speaking truth to power, rather than licking boots.

Also cheater stroganoff—brown some onions and 1lb ground beef (and fresh mushrooms if you have them), dump in two cans of condensed cream-of-mushroom soup, bring to a boil, turn off the heat, then stir in a cup or two of sour cream and salt + pepper. Serve over noodles or rice.

Pasta salad! Make a crap-ton of pasta, drain and cool, chop up cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, whatever, throw them in with the pasta + a can of drained sliced olives + some cubed cheese (feta is best, but you can use whatever is cheapest) + some bottled salad dressing (Italian or Greek). Done!
