There's an aspect to charter schools you missed. They get framed as "choice", but what kind of choice is it when the only school in town is some fundamentalist academy, where other peoples' kids can be indoctrinated on the taxpayer dime & non-Christian & LGBTQ kids can be forced to conform?

For much of the first half of the 20th century, Canadians were still British subjects & our constitution wasn't patriated until 1981.

I still maintain this connection played a big role in how a vast country with a small population was safe from serious threat from the US.

I think it's been proven the parliamentary system is more stable & adaptable to changing mores than what the Americans have & we have a better country because of it.

If you don't think the fact the 🇬🇧 Army was a force to be reckoned with when the 🇺🇲 Army started chanting "54-40 or fight" has anything to do with why we have a country, or haven't learned how 🇬🇧 came to our rescue last time the 🇺🇲 tariffed us to try & annex us, you need to go back to the history books.

Plus, we're getting a lesson in real time about how republics eventually fail.

It's not silly. It's what's protected us from US annexation in the past & those connections are important once again.

What's silly is thinking we'd stand alone as a republic & not be absorbed into the US.

The monarchy & the Commonwealth are what enable Canada to maintain its sovereignty, but our king doesn't rule by edict, but rather we are governed by the people we elect.

Something to keep an eye open for is if he calls for the age someone can be tried as an adult to be dropped, as is happening in the US, because changing the definition of adulthood has implications for the legality of child brides.

They can't be trusted with a plastic knife & fork, let alone our democracy, our rights, our sovereignty, our public healthcare & education, our national archives, and public assets like national parks.

Plus they'd put assault weapons in the hands of the loons & goons that comprise their base.
