UK GDS Service Manual experts: I am looking for a cross-functional flowchart that illustrates what each role could/should be doing in each stage from Discovery, through Alpha, Private Beta, Public Beta, Live and Retirement. Does anyone have such a thing? (And yes I have been searching for a while!)

GenAI and software development: a new paradigm Tim Howard, Deputy Director for Major Projects, Cross-Cutting Technical Services, reflects on his experience of integrating generative AI into software development workflows.

This is very good - especially that DEFRA is blogging about it. That said, there must be a cross-government standard for this rather than each department creating their own.

Pasta is almost daily for one of mine. That doesn't mean I'm a bad parent, though. Whenever assessing your own or others parenting, think carefully. Or better, don't assess.

I really struggle with tools like that. I get lost very quickly due to the lack of structure.

3. Signposting is important. Being clear with a team when you are in the role of lead designer and when you are in the role of a designer who has a pretty good idea how to deliver a new feature will help the team to digest your input.

Three thoughts:
1. Your experience and vantage point puts you in an excellent position to tell a team how to achieve a certain outcome or deliver a specific goal.
2. If you don't share your insights and expertise on the principle of being a servant leader then I think that's actually unhelpful.

I asked a teacher about why they all have the same haircut. Her explanation was that the last thing you want as a teenager is to be different, so they all conform.

I remember the day that I did go to Auschwitz - the memories will remain with me forever. And I recommend that everyone who is able to visit does so. I also remember the cemetery, and (on a lighter note) the amazing ice-cream parlour in Krakow town square.
