This month marks 100 years since the first "Negro History Week", the precursor to the Black History Month we celebrate today. 💯 This week was a coordinated effort to teach Black history in public schools all across the United States.

Tillie Olsen's 1978 book, Silences, was a pioneering study of the obstacles that kept many women writers from the readers and critical attention they deserved. Back in 2015, I looked at some of the still-neglected books included in Olsen's reading lists in Silences.

Bound to be fantastic!

I wanted to use thread binding for the brochures of our upcoming exhibit on East Asian Rare Books, but when we decided we would need to print approximately 400 copies, I did a quick calculation of 4 holes X 400 and opted for a staple. 🫠

This is such a lovely, generous example of an editor providing a roadmap of possibilities for contributors. I would love to see this replicated in other journals, though I doubt they could match its eloquence.

I saw this in DC when I was there for a conference. It is spectacular! If you are in the area, don't miss it!
