We may soon have 70 million boomers too old to drive, too car-dependent to stop. As the baby boomer bubble pushes into its eighties, we are driving into a demographic wall.

The demographic reality is unrelenting. What happens when you have 70 million baby boomers pushing 80 and still driving big SUVs on North American roads? A whole lot of accidents waiting to happen. lloydalter.substack.com/p/we-may-soo...

This calendar is the operational blueprint of a trafficking enterprise disguised as a social schedule. It meticulously logs Epstein's movements and meetings, proving his access to the powerful was constant and calculated.

Bad puns are of course essential, so if you have any absolutely terrible puns that would make a good valentine card... send them over!

Hyvää ystävänpäivää!
I made an updated version of my old favourite vintage valentine cards...a blend of cheesy vintage valentines requiring scissors & paste, and the Finnish concept of Valentines day, which celebrates friendships in addition to romantic ones. Enjoy! drive.google.com/file/d/1_Qtz...

We've had enough info to figure it out, but we were also lucky to see it happen so we knew what was going on right away.

Yeah we just got on a nice old mk1 train that started at production headed to 22nd street. We left commercial on a millennium train just after the stall, and had to wait for a bit before an expo line showed up on the board... But it's there now.

I don't think they have bluesky... I saw a train stuck just before the commercial station, and they were disembarking passengers along the trackside walkway. I'm heading around the other direction now... Where are you trying to get to?

Going around the other direction now... Sounds like it's still blocked but there are expo lines running from production o 22nd now

Bluesky readers, I need books please. Here are authors I love. Can you recommend anyone similar?

Fantasy: T Kingfisher, VE Schwab, Katherine Addison

SciFi: Becky Chambers, Martha Wells, Ann Leckie

Romance: KJ Charles, Cat Sebastian, Courtney Milan

Here’s an enchanting scene to say thank you!

The headline "Can San Francisco Be Saved?" (as though it could be lost) captures how even a publication as rational as
@theatlantic.com feels obliged to cater to "urban doom loop" vibes.

Big cities are natural engines of prosperity. They do not need "saving." 1/

“I just saw a post arguing how traditional hunting practices aren’t traditional because they were fishing from a motorboat... white ppl imagine our cultures as frozen in time and our identities, and our ‘authenticity’, as being tied to that period.”

“White people don’t view themselves that way though. White people didn’t see themselves as being any less white when they started using cars and abondoned the horse and buggy. White people get to live in the present while for us, existing in real time is a betrayal of our culture.”

“This is how we teach white kids about Aboriginal culture too... we compare Aboriginal ppl pre-1788 with white ppl 2023.

‘They didn’t have cars like we do’
You didn’t have cars in the 1700s either!”

“The worst thing we do tho is we teach them about us by what we didn’t do more than what we did - we didn’t invent the wheel, we didn’t farm, we didn’t have a written language, we didn’t build permanent houses etc.”

“The implication being we weren’t capable. We wanted to, but we couldn’t. We weren’t just ‘primitive’ we were failures. They can’t imagine we had other priorities, other aspirations, other definitions of success... other cultures are not failed attempts at being you.

White supremely is one hell of a drug.”

We need to build for deconstruction. Screws, clamps, or joints instead of nails. No glue or concrete affixed to wood. Consistent sizes/lengths. That kind of material isn't produced by current construction methods.

I think to make it practical the rules have to change for construction and also for deconstruction. Just the time it takes for human to deconstruct, handle and sort the the materials from a normal building (not even including denailing) means it's not cost effective.

Reclaimed will never be more than a specialty product until we change our building methods. The cleaning and prep costs too much. I marketed and sold reclaimed for almost a decade... It's cheaper to grow a tree. But reclaimed does make fantastic finishing and feature materials.
