I have genuinely never had a hard time with an unhoused person and I genuinely think it's because I talk to them like people who are having a hard time. Because they are. Also I tend to carry extra lighters and snacks in case somebody needs them.

I was pretty annoyed by a friend telling me she thought my agoraphobia is so bad right now because of the unhoused presence around me and not all the fuckass laws and orders about being mentally ill in public being a crime or cops or ice just. Kidnapping people.

It really hits home especially as the isolation and the shit done to isolate me intensifies and it's openly related to my disabilities and mental illness.

Lots of shelters won't let you stay if you're inebriated or on drugs because of policies and discrimination that completely ignore the functional aspects those drugs offer the unhoused.

There's a shelter here in Spokane that was a glorified box, didn't have running water or heat or safe beds. Sexual assault was rampant. Now it's another abandoned building.

It doesn't address that shelters and services aren't enough and they need a ton of work and funding themselves. I know people who can't go to shelters for various reasons or have been turned away for not being desperate enough..

And as someone who's been homless.. I'm not sure most of the critics here understand the push forward this is. It's not enough. That's true. But it is a little better!
