Golden Gate Park was once home to high-speed auto racing (It did not end well) Speeds were high and safety was low in the Guardsmen classic, a short-lived automobile race that accelerated through San Francisco’s biggest park. We found the startling photos.

I wrote this @sfchronicle.com column and still can't believe it happened.

@rollovereasy.org Gooooooooood Morning from the 44 O’Shaughnessy! Today I am driving 8628, once upon a time known as Red Front Coach. I wrote a poem when this bus had the red front removed:

Each of these walks has not only different neighborhoods with different vibes, they all also have totally different vistas.

Head North, down Laguna Honda into the Inner Sunset. Walk West down Portola and into West Portal. Walk South through Glen Canyon to Glen Park. East down Clipper and 24th into Noe Valley.

It’s very hard to beat the Powell Hyde Cable Car line for this purpose! Not a bus, however. For buses: the 48, 44, 52, and 36 all go to the same corner of Portola and Woodside, and from there you can walk downhill in all cardinal directions through totally different and cool places.

oooh let’s do this but for highways

The worst bus of all is the bus that never comes. BEB are firmly in that category here.

In my opinion, even if they were equally as reliable and usable as our current diesel hybrid fleet, they are worse because of how heavy they are, and because the f the requirements to bring huge amounts of electricity to the yards. It’s just not a good plan.

IDK, turns out they are bad. Possibly a rush to make something, regardless of quality, to take advantage of the federal capital funds. I have had major complaints with all of them from my perspective behind the wheel, these are not well designed vehicles.

Ten of Twelve. Not sure if the other two are in revenue or elsewhere out of service getting worked on.

Trolleybuses really are the superior, time tested, climate friendly path to the future. San Francisco can power its transit on sunshine and gravity, thanks to M.M. O’Shaughnessy!
