More energy generation - somewhere else.
Less taxation - plus public services.
More land for wildlife - but won't change their lifestyles to enable this.

Remember: There is nothing natural or inevitable about extreme inequality; itโs the result of an economic system that values wealth and power over human dignity and justice.
It doesn't have to be this way.

Democrats say thereโs new room for compromise inside the partyโs big tent, @elainegodfrey.bsky.social reports. But the party still hasnโt decided on which issues it will accept disagreementโand on which will it stand firm:

Far as I can tell, the five-year plan recommendations are the first time that the Central Committee has explicitly called for electrification of energy use. The previous five-year plans only had it in the energy sector plan, so elevating it to the top level is significant.

Artificial intelligence could dramatically improve weather forecasting
An AI-based model outperformed every other in forecasting the Indian monsoon this year. This helped millions of farmers.
One area where AI has a lot of potential is in weather forecasting and climate modelling.
Fairly accurate weather forecasting, in particular, is something that many of us now take for granted.

Supreme Court issues emergency order to block full SNAP food aid payments
The Supreme Court has granted the Trump administrationโs emergency appeal to temporarily block a court order to fully fund SNAP food aid payments amid the government shutdown.
Itโs disgraceful that the administration chose to go to court instead of fulfilling its responsibility to the American people.

The Farmers' Almanac is shutting down, Teen Vogue terminated its political coverage, and CBS News laid off its climate team. This has been a rough week for journalism.

Fig. 2. Learning rates for technologies in the Performance Curve Database are seldom constant. (b) Past learning rate (i.e., the learning rate for the first half of points in the data series) versus future learning rate (i.e., the learning rate observed in the second half of the points in the data series) for the same technologies. The past learning rate is not a good predictor of the future learning rate as measured by the Pearson correlation coefficient for the learning exponent of 0.12 and not significantly different from 0 at the 5% confidence level. Outliers (not shown) include nuclear electricity (โ109,โ32), offshore gas pipeline (โ59,13), crude oil (โ87,55), and motor gasoline (โ29,64).
Experience curves indicate that successful technologies reduce in cost by ~20% for each doubling of cumulative production.
However, we find that past learning rates are not very predictive of future learning rates, throwing many energy tech cost projections into doubt.

Climate change hits hardest poor people in hot places.
We need to help them not be so poor and help them not be so hot.
Neither climate change, nor malaria, nor malnutrition will decimate civilization.
Nevertheless, we need to solve all of these problems.
