Whatever else is in the deal, agreeing to merely have a vote on ACA is a fig leaf. Even if it passes the Senate, it won't in the House, which also makes it an easy yes vote for the Senate Rs who might want to, defusing it as an attack on them.

They should have locked in the ACA tax credits FIRST, before the CR (and frankly even that's too little). They had all the leverage. They are losers to the core!

one thing i find crazy-making is the idea that getting rid of the filibuster would make congress a purely majoritarian institution. bicameralism itself is counter-majoritarian! equal state representation is counter-majoritarian! the fact that senate elections are staggered is counter-majoritarian!

I’m not an American historian but my general sense is that most of the countermajoritarian stuff is there to protect slavery. But today they probably mean republicans when they say small states or rural interests and does that sound right? We need countermajoritarian tools so dems don’t win?

Meanwhile, Trump is defying court orders anyway, and his lawlessness and cruelty is finally breaking through politically. Why give him two days where he is technically not defying the court? Why cancel those headlines? Why make it BOTH SIDES agreeing he can do this for now?

If the conservatives on SCOTUS want to allow Trump to starve kids, they will find a way to do that. I dont think this gift from KBJ will stop Roberts next week.

There's a generation of Dems that don't understand appropriate strategies in the face of shameless lawlessness. Even kind of allowing the lawlessness to continue is unacceptable. Force the Republicans to do it on their own, without even the barest hint from decent people that it might be OK.

KBJ should have done what is right and upheld the order to feed people, not written a politically calculated endorsement of a few more days of starvation.

If Republicans are going to be evil, make THEM be evil. Don't pretend SNAP denial is not such an evil action that we can wait for resolution.

The right way to handle the government illegally starving people is NOT to let them keep illegally starving people because legal procedure might have otherwise let them illegally starve people with a different schedule of court hearings.
