DNR proposes limiting commercial whitefish harvest after steep population decline The Wisconsin DNR is proposing to reduce the commercial harvest on whitefish in Lake Michigan as the population has seen a dramatic decline.

Whitefish is the highest value fishery in Lake Michigan (estimated value ~$2.8 million last year), but invasive zebra/quagga mussels have contributed to the population declining by 75% in the last 2 decades.
