America putting most of its eggs in the generative AI basket, China going hard into green tech. When history looks back on this period, someone is going to look awfully stupid.

Dipshit is smashing out a car window with his gun, barrel first. Just rogue, cowboy stiff.

There were two US citizens in the car. They were apprehended and detained for β€œobstructing” ICE by honking their horn to let people know ICE was in the neighborhood.

To be fair, many of them are also delighted to inconvenience cis people who don’t follow their personal preferences for gender expression.

Alabama can never spend enough money on a prison | Alabama Reflector State leaders who prioritize punishment and control over the welfare of citizens will never see any money spent on walls and bars as wasted.

My column from Monday. For the cost of an incomplete 4,000-bed prison in Elmore, Alabama could have paid for five years of health insurance and peace of mind for 174,000 Alabamians.

But our leaders don’t care. Because Alabama government is not designed to help people. It’s meant to control them.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that β€œwe need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

Two things:

1) Fuck every single person who is involved in this scheme to blame people for dying of infectious diseases because they didn’t eat enough broccoli
2) Probably don’t strengthen your immune system. Your immune system is typically 4 minutes away from just straight up murdering you.

[there's no way he can blame this on democrats. even he's not that good.]

Donald Trump is our nation's biggest mark but Dem leadership is so inept and fundamentally unpersuasive that they've lost a charisma contest to Steven Miller for ten years

They lied about it. All of it. A thug cop shot an unarmed woman five times without justification, boasted about it to his colleagues, and then this administration tried cover it all up by arresting her and charging her with felonies.

Imagine, if you will, that NASA updated its website to suggest gravity might not exist, prompting CalTech and CERN to release statements saying, "With great sadness, we can no longer recommend listening to NASA."

This is what's happening in epidemiology.

New Mexico now offers free childcare for all. Here’s how parents and teachers made it happen From marches and petitions to a constitutional amendment, a years-long campaign led to New Mexico becoming the first state in the US to offer universal childcare

We can live differently.

We can do good things.

Stack of blocks labeled, all modern digital infrastructure. A ratchet tipping over the entire stack is labeled AI. A load bearing pillar is labeled unpaid open source development. Another label is AWS, and Cloudflare and Unpaid Open Source Developers.

Extremely upset that a throw-away XKCD joke somehow became the organizing principle for the Internet.

In North Carolina, we recently expanded our Medicaid program to include graduated foster youth up to age 26! It’s not everything, but it’s something good.

Happy international men’s day! Dudes, text a male friend and ask a male friend and ask how he’s really doing. Men also deserve deep and meaningful connections.

SNAP recipients have to provide documentation, be interviewed, frequently recertify, and are subject to onerous restrictions and made to jump through hoops.

Yet we’re accused of fraud and our lives threatened by people who provide not one shred of evidence.

Even his example is about government responsibility! Your home is within 500ft of a fire hydrant because the municipal government put it there. Homeowners arenβ€˜t installing their own fire hydrants.

And for that matter, the fire hydrant is only useful if there are firefighters, a public good.

Not that I believe really anything Nuzzi writes, given her record, but the far bigger scandal here is her claim that RFK Jr. was still actively using psychedelics last year, then became HHS secretary in an admin that is killing people for smuggling recreational drugs.

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? That raid? So it resulted in 0 arrests.

It turns out itβ€˜a way cheaper to buy a solar or wind generator once and then get free power for the rest of it’s working life then to buy a fossil fuel generator and then also buy fuel forever. Who knew?

This is an important new line being crossed. Trump isn't just pardoning the act of attempting to overthrow the government on January 6: he's pardoning *those people* for committing crimes generally. He may be creating a group of (federally) legally untouchable people.

so now when they say "I vibed it" there's basically no longer an implicit seal of quality backing it up. You can no longer say "oh, this is Bob, he knows what he's doing"

They absolutely will, as long as they can price based on coverage restrictions or your pre-existing conditions. The problem is that system is awful for everyone.

They in fact are! They used to offer a lot of flexibility in price depending on your health, whether or not you wanted coverage for maternity or mental healthcare, your gender, and whether or not you had pre-existing conditions.

We tried this. It doesn’t end well.
