"TTRPGs are just so expensive now"
According to the MSRPs printed on my AD&D 2e books - PHB-$20, DMG-$18, MM-$30. That's $68 in 1990 money. Inflation puts that at $170ish in 2025.
We now have full-color books. Most RPGs come with PDFs. And all for the same price or less.
Stop yelling at clouds.

An RPG's design should aim to build system mastery through character creation and development. If it doesn't, it's a missed opportunity. Put another way, siloing very similar play options in specific contexts, such as class features or feats in D&D, is a mistake even if it initially simplifies play.

But that sort of qualifier then raises the question: Why not use an existing spell? A valid answer is that no comparable spell exists. Then, the qualifier adds an interesting gameplay feature. I'll need to consider that for future design. Your thoughts are welcome.

But counterspelling or dispelling enemy magic is a feel-good moment for players that shouldn't be "simplified" out of the game. But Arcane Bursts and other magical actions that aren't spells do just that. They're detrimental to play without a "can be counterspelled" or "can be dispelled" aspect.

I get that huge spell lists are intimidating for running at the table. Still, they tell a story and interact properly with other spells. Design for utility calls for telling the DM how to use that spell list in combat and, if possible, other situations.

A philosophy in 5e design was that spells should do heavy lifting. It's why some monsters had spell lists in place of huge stat blocks with custom abilities. Also, spell lists, whether class based or innate, tell a story in shorthand and ensure meaningful interactions with other spells.

In modern D&D, too many class features resemble spells but don't route through those spells. It's maddening. One thing spells exist for is to define rules exceptions in a limited and easily modifiable sphere. Features that are no more than watered down or mashed together spells are poor design.

The left better start figuring out how to weaponize today's decision rather than just (rightfully) criticizing it.
- Go back into Judge Kaczmaryk's court to dissolve all of his nationwide orders.
- Pass gun bans and insist any order applies only to plaintiffs.

I want to reiterate that countless conservative judges issued universal injunctions against the Biden administration, and the Supreme Court never halted the practice. Now, barely five months into Trump's second term, the court puts an end to these injunctions. A brazen double standard.

Forty-four annular turquoise blue glass beads strung on modern thread.
Found when a farmer ploughed up a cremation urn at Kongehรธj in Denmark in 1885. The urn broke and was found to contain burnt bones, the 44 blue glass beads and two gold spiral rings. Research shows the beads were made in Mesopotamia (present-day Iraq), indicating far-reaching trade in luxury goods some 3,000 years ago
Something lovely for your timeline!

It should not be legal for general law enforcement officers to take measures, such as masks, to remain anonymous. If you're doing legal, non-undercover work, you should have to identify yourself and be identifiable. If you don't want to be identified, that work isn't for you.
