I was just thinking this sounds like Huppert is slipping on Seyrig’s purple boa and silver lamé.

Stretch Out and Wait

I’ve long thought Meat Is Murder would be considered The Smiths’ masterpiece if the wheels hadn’t come off with the last two songs (The Queen Is Dead is crammed with filler). So here it is, as glorious as it might have been. open.spotify.com/playlist/75x...

#NowPlaying A great bluesy record in the New Orleans style, the band led by the great Buck Clayton.

#NowPlaying Languid vocals accompanied by just guitar and bass—a lovely late-night record in the Julie London style.

Picked this up for a quid yesterday (and it includes a second disc of remixes), and who’d have thought the Manics were a singles band? It’s banger after banger.

I haven’t seen VTTBOTS since I was tiny. Is the consensus that the BW episodes stand up better than the colour?

I was at a performance by the Brodsky Quartet during which someone’s phone sounded. Excruciatingly, the culprit was unaware the phone was theirs, and let it ring and ring.

Listening to ABC’s The Look of Love and its line "Martin, maybe one day you'll find true love", I recall that I love songs where the singer names themselves. Others are The Human League’s “Love Action” and Bowie’s Can’t Help Thinking About Me” AND Teenage Wildlife.

Any others?

The Betrayal (1966): The cruelty and injustice of the world incarnated as hundreds of murderous swordsmen encircling and surging towards one noble individual. The last twenty minutes are among the most cathartic in cinema.

I like to visualise a crushed James Dean Bradfield as he takes delivery of the latest Nicky Wire lyric sheet and contemplates how he might put it to a beat.
