This doesn’t seem like a good thing. I’m no longer eligible for the nicholl but had success due to two scripts doing well in it. I’m a neurodivergent, severely dyslexic college dropout. I’m not sure I would have had that success if I wasn’t able to submit myself.

The Nicholl had long been a way for unknown screenwriters to get their foot in the Hollywood door. It certainly helped me.

This is going in the wrong direction. I went to one of those schools and they absolutely put their thumb on the scales everywhere. This is utter bs and not keeping with the open, less gatekeepery legacy of the Nicholl.

If you're not affiliated w/ one of these orgs, your only option w/ the Nicholl is now to submit a script via The Black List (at a significantly higher cost than in years past.)

This is a disappointing development, negatively impacts older writers, and adds additional financial hurdles for everyone.
