I think I have confirmed the H is for Hartmannella. But the 'B' remains uncertain. No candidate organism for this mystery amoeba --which turned out to be Naegleria--begins with a B.

Question for microbiologists (or others) regarding conventions for naming isolated strains of microbes. 2 strains of amoeba isolated from human cases of meningitis in the 1960s were named HB-1 and HB-3. My guess is 'H' stands for Hartmannella or Human and 'B' for Butt, the scientist responsible?
