I’d like to live in a world where the trash collector is valorized and the trash creator is expected to justify themselves.

I don’t want to reduce manual labor. I want to pay people better and treat them better for manual labor.

And anticipating emergence with sensitive dependence on initial conditions > presumptions of tabula rasa and deterministic change. They probably know that but it doesn’t serve them to talk about it.

You know what I’ve got on my mind? Nitrogen fertilizer, when applied sub-optimally, is only partially absorbed by plants & results soil bacteria producing nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas 300X more powerful than CO2. Farmers need to be incentivized to manage fertilizers much better.

It's a two-way network, too. When I was working as a journalist, we'd not only aim to get our stories on @techmeme.com - but we'd get real-time push notifications of every story that hit Techmeme from someone else. Any sources that beat us twice, we would go upstream & monitor their feeds closely.

You know how all those federal grants were killed for nonprofit groups? 5 of them won in court today and got a temporary injunction on the ending of their grants!

Either I described this really poorly, I don’t have credibility yet in this field, or this isn’t the huge deal I think it is. But I really do think it’s a huge deal!
