Held captive in their own country during World War II, Japanese Americans used nature to cope with their unjustified imprisonment Incarcerated in rough barracks surrounded by barbed wire and armed soldiers, Japanese Americans made functional and beautiful items to ease their suffering.

On Feb. 19, 1942, FDR’s Executive Order 9066 led to the incarceration of nearly 127,000 Japanese Americans without evidence of disloyalty.

One of their granddaughters researches this sad history – and writes about the objects they created to help them endure. #thisdayinhistory buff.ly/jftdr7Z

I took this photo on the Teign Estuary in Devon in spring 2022. I thought I was just taking a photo of an attractive hole in an old tree. It was only when I got home and looked through my camera roll that I saw the leaping dog, who I'd caught perfectly framed, mid-leap, totally by chance. I remembered the dog immediately, because of what an annoying twat it had been.
