How does the US avoid this? Can it create a wedge between Russia and China while serving as an adversary to both? Or is the best option for the US to embrace one of the two and try to cut the other one out? And if the latter, who becomes the ally and who remains the adversary.

Nevertheless, if the US continues to treat both Russia and China as adversaries, does a Russia-China alliance eventually eclipse the US in economic and military might?

Let's start with the caveat that Russia clearly started the war when it invaded Crimea and there may be long term consequences for Europe if Russia can act as an unchecked aggressor.

Anyone who's concerned about what goes on in a women's bathroom has never peed in a trough at a stadium.

There's a reason why the highest priority of dictators and authoritarian regimes is to restrain the free press. While it is fair to ask questions about the role of the media and how to better reach the public, abandoning journalism and the organizations that support it is not the answer.

While you may not like every editorial decision, headline, tone, there are reporters out there working to speak truth to power -- to "comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable."

Perhaps the conversation shouldn't be about whether the influence of the "legacy media" (ht @marcelias.bsky.social and @danpfeiffer.bsky.social) is waning, but about why that is happening and what a world without newspapers and broadcast news looks like.

As a country, it is more important than ever to support responsible journalism, not to tear it down and contribute to its delegitimization.

BlueSky is a promising platform, but it's not investing in journalism. The journalists who are informing the masses here are paid by "legacy media."

Your reference to "legacy media" falls into the same trap. There are many talented ournalists out there who still provide excellent reporting for legacy media organizations.

This is a disappointing take, Marc. For years, many on the right have delegitimized hard working journalists by painting all media with broad strokes -- the "MSM" and "fake news."
