Every so often I see someone posting about the low quality of papers these days. They don’t say it, but some particular paper had to have precipitated these posts and I can’t help but worry that it was one of mine.

Luckily, such worries are overly optimistic.

Interesting. Fwiw, the only reason I think it sounds okay is because I read it like a command. That other one sounds marginally infelicitous, but I also feel like it can be accommodated. people definitely speak that way, so maybe my intuitions are tainted.

That one is fine to me because I read as a command as opposed to a pure expressive. To me, There seems to be something going on over and above the fact that the consequents aren’t truth conditional.

What* folks who think…

I wonder whether folks who think those conditionals are felicitous would say about disjunctions: “Essman isn’t involved or hooray”

They both sound bad to me but the disjunction sounds worse.

Fwiw, I share the intuition that they are not entirely felicitous.

Also, I can’t remember, but you may have been the one who turned me onto these guys some years back.

Ev loves this band, and this album in particular. She always asks for the “green battle bag with the purple face”.

She typically doesn’t like metal music, but she’s big on this one.

Fun exists on a spectrum and they are having too much of it, if you ask me.
