I don’t know what to do. I can keep using the Affinity 2 suite for a while but it’ll inevitably stop working due to OS updates etc. I can’t justify Creative Cloud due to its cost and the fact that Adobe sucks. What other options are out there that are just as powerful? Slim pickings.

Perhaps unsurprisingly Canva has absolutely ruined the Affinity suite. Free app that requires logging into a Canva account and comes with AI upsells? GTFO

Of course the perpetual V2 licenses - while remaining valid - will no longer receive updates to soft-force users to upgrade to the newer suite at some point.

I've been a long-time fan of Affinity Photo - so I'm eyeing this with great suspicion.

Affinity Studio is "free" but has certain features behind a paid Canva Premium subscription. This will inevitably mean that to drive revenue, at some point essential features will be moved to the subscription level, keeping the 'free' version as just a basic software shell to drive the subscription.

Apparently Affinity Photo is now part of Canva Affinity Studio (which combines the earlier Serif suite into a single app). It's also free, which is giving me worries.

Serif Affinity Photo was an incredibly value-for-money Photoshop alternative and an absolute steal at € 50 for a perpetual licence.
