A lot of the ASA-erati attended the @americansoccerinsights.com summit at Rice University last week, and people wanted to talk about their experience.

So we convened the ASA roundtable for highlights.

A player in massive trade rumors owning part of a prediction market where people can bet on whether he gets traded is a MASSIVE conflict of interest.

This is so far beyond players doing sportsbook ads.

Every time I see a MAC Address that has a possible footy formation in it, I want to take a photo of it and keep it. Just whitelisting devices nevermind me.

Babe... wake up. @futi.live @johnspacemuller.com dropped team styles and tendencies data.

Seems like an awesome resource for summarizing how teams play: futiapp.substack.com/p/how-many-w...

Last week, I posted a small survey that looked at FBref alternatives in an attempt to assess what resources remain for women’s soccer fans. For @theixsports.bsky.social, I expanded that survey, and the results are grim. Here’s what that means for the future of woso data and coverage:

My story on Elon Musk cutting safeguards at xAI is on the front page of today's @washingtonpost.com. I’m also among 100’s of reporters laid off. Washington Post losing its sports section is really sad. Gave ASA (AND ME) a few different chances to do World Cup previews and it was a huge thing for us.

If you campaigned for the presidency on a promise to destroy these assholes, you would win a landslide the size of FDR in 1936, when he campaigned on a promise to destroy these assholes.

DHS’s account of two Venezuelans shot by border patrol falls apart in court: β€˜A smear campaign’ Immigration officials said agent shot two β€˜vicious gang members’ in Portland, but records obtained by the Guardian reveal US prosecutor contradicted claims

After Border Patrol shot two people in Portland, DHS claimed they were "vicious gang members" tied to a past shooting.

But records I obtained reveal a US prosecutor has since directly contradicted DHS, saying, "We're not suggesting he is a gang member." My dive into how DHS' claims have collapsed:

My former ASI roommate @armankafai.bsky.social is joining us on the ASA podcast tonight to talk MLS budget rules, Miami and ASI. Does any one have any questions we need to tackle?

Legitimately. We do all this hand wringing about how there are so few local and independent reporters and outlets focusing on MLS and those who are, are scoffed at and ignored. Fans are their own villains sometimes.

Playing around with @futi.live organized possession data.

In 2025 #MLS play, the Sounders ranked #1 in success rate and 8th in progression phases which @johnspacemuller.com defines as possession sequences where teams advance the ball into threatening areas before a shot or box entry.
