I’ve started a slack to try to organize Halifax Regional Municipality 2026 budget advocacy better. We’re specifically pushing for fiscal sustainability and actual serious consideration of revenue, and against frivolous nickel and diming, and want to organize letter writing and council presentations.

I’ve heard it’s pretty fun despite the absolute mess that was developing it!

Please. I beg. It’s all I want, as someone who had no choice but to buy in a suburb since we could no longer afford to rent ANYWHERE. Please, I want to be able to access services in my neighbourhood.

It’s actually very strange that a city requires you to hop in a car and drive for everything. It doesn’t have to be this way.

Vancouver was obviously even stronger for that, but I wanted to make the point that Halifax is not too small to have those kinds of neighbourhoods.

YES!! One of the strangest things when we moved back here from BC was how huge parts of the city are all (mostly single detached) residential. Even the little neighborhoods in Victoria generally had your essentials within walking distance.

The most important long-term fiscally sustainable thing we can do is to enable sprawl repair in the suburbs. The more density we can put into suburban areas where it makes sense the better. Every community should have a main street and a mix of housing.
