You are not seeing this slaughter live-streamed to your devices because Israel has murdered most of Gaza’s most prominent journalists in targeted assassinations.

Malaysian national oil company Petronas just dumped 20% of its portfolio of Canadian gas assets - including a slice of its stake in LNG Canada - to MidOcean Energy… which is part owned by Saudi Aramco. Canada’s sole LNG export terminal is owned by four foreign NOCs. Nation-building projects anyone?

On the current draft negotiating text that are informing the final hours of #COP29:

The way that Canada and other developed country governments have shown up at #COP29 has been nothing short of shameful. 9/9

The majority demand for the new finance goal is $1.3 trillion. The current draft text offers a paltry $250 billion. For context, Africa alone spends $163 billion annually just to service debt, let alone invest in an energy transition.

Climate finance is supposed to support developing countries to create fiscal space for an energy transition instead of having to use all their resources fighting poverty and striving to build up their industries in the face of unfair trade agreements and debilitating debt.

#Climatefinance is not charity: it is a debt owed to the dvping world for the historical responsibility that wealthy countries hold for the climate crisis, & their current disproportionate economic power, wrested through the stolen labour and resources of the Global South.

This COP was critical for many reasons. One, it is likely the last chance to lock in commitments from the world's biggest climate culprit before an incoming Trump govt will pull the USA from the #ParisAgreement. The draft text defies the spirit of the PA.

The real winners of #COP29 are the fossil fuel lobbyists; the draft text on the table is nothing short of a victory of them. Gone are the pillars that would have enabled the next era of #climateaction: public, grant-based finance and adequate $ for adaptation & #LossAndDamage.
