It’s pretty great, actually.

The colored leaves are starting to fall, as expected this time of year. Soon, it’ll be time to prune. I may try to propagate from some trimmings, but we’ll see. For now, I water sparingly and cross my fingers for root health. And we take it one colorful day at a time.

Poinsettia update. Who knows how long they’ll last this year, but for now, they’re alright. ;)

Sorry. That’s a bit real for the forgotten generation raised without parents. But I’ll stick with it. As penance, here’s my first thought, that I dismissed as β€œtoo nineties,” even though it fits late Gen X like me:

The Gen X urge to hope you hear this song, and it pissed you off.

My first thought here was

…to hope you hear this song, and it pissed you off.

But that’s too nineties to be quintessential Gen X to me. So I thought of Foreigner and Journey and… oh. My actual reposted answer got a bit real there.

Sure, I signed up. I played one season. It wasn’t any fun. And frankly it was too expensive. I came back to softball (intramural) in college and played USSSA for years after. But the whole youth sports cult was just nah. I did martial arts at the local youth center instead.

I had this experience with softball. Grew up on military bases and in places where sports were just for fun. Was a big-ish fish in those small ponds. Moved to Texas in 8th grade. Encountered athletic organizations. Had to pay a lot more to play. The teams had been together for years. No room for me.

I tested positive for Human Metapneumovirus, by the way. None of the more common stuff. Sometimes β€œjust a cold,” sometimes pneumonia and worse. My body chose the latter. Yay.

Oh, and still haven’t seen B for any real time since January. Still isolating. I *might* be turning the corner today. But we’ll see… I’ve thought that before. And I was very wrong. So… we’ll see…

Still sick. Still bleeding money from lost work. Privileged enough to keep one month’s payroll saved in case of events like this. I’ll should be okay. Fingers crossed. Still, it sucks that a sick person not masking has cost me well into the four digits so far.

You should not be working on the railroad all the live-long day, nor should you be working on the railroad just to pass the time away. You should be working on the railroad for the duration of a reasonable shift, for fair wages.

I believe it’s a reference to Heated Rivalry, a wonderful hockey romance. It’s a series of books recently made into a Canadian TV show that aired in the US on HBO Max.

There are also a number of women hockey players who have married each other.

Ramadan began on February 17. That is why we put our Ramadan message on social media yesterday.
Lent began today, which is why our Lent message went on social media one day later.

The date of Lent is determined by the church calendar, rooted in the decisions of the Council of Nicaea (325 AD).
The official start of Ramadan traditionally depends on the sighting of the new crescent moon.
Bedford Borough Council holds no authority over the Council of Nicaea and was not responsible for the creation of the moon 4.53billion years ago.

Absolutely no notes, this is perfectly done.

Made the mistake of stopping once at Christmas. Didn’t realize it was a holiday shopping site. It was a lot. The last time I considered stopping, the line for gas went down the access road. I went across the highway, filled up, & peed. The line hadn’t moved enough that I’d have been in the lot yet.

Nope. They tried to build one one town over. Got vetoed due to traffic concerns, etc. So they built one in my town and it’s a nightmare. When it was an occasional travel stop on the way south, it was…fine. Nothing special, but fine. Now that it’s a cult mecca, it’s a traffic jam just for gas. Nah.

Back in 2016 (and several times since), B remarked on the fact that her parents were T supporters and that she’d had a realization that they didn’t raise her but that she was raised on the Street. Sesame Street.

And thank the maker for that.
