There were four kids in my house. One washed, one rinsed, one dried, one had the night off.

Perfectly fine to let them dry on their own, of course. But with six people, that doesn’t fit in a rack well. And yeah. Don’t think I ever had a dishwasher until I was an adult.

Not to be dramatic, but the four horsemen do not ride alone.

Sigh. This is depressing. But seriously, safe food doesn’t just magically appear. Without a fully staffed USDA/APHIS, how would we feed this many people?

We…wouldn’t. You think grocery prices are high now?!

This. And also, I didn’t mention food supply. My side of the aisle (veterinary) is regulated by the FDA and USDA too. We have historically been very good at disease control. But without adequate medications and especially inspections/oversight, expect a tainted food supply and more zoonotic disease.

I got them wrong more often than I got them right. The skill to solve the puzzle is not innate. The determination might be, but it’s likely learned too. We’re all born and made. And yes, we all have different proclivities. But regardless of all that, the point stands. Repetition matters.

I loved physics. And I did rather well in it. But I drew a picture every time.

As for organic chemistry, where I did well enough I worked in the lab afterward, I remember doing the equations over and over and over until I got them right. To me, it was a puzzle I had to keep trying to solve.

I learned as a child from my dad. Partner never learned. I got her No Stress Chess and it seemed to really help her learn as an adult.

Pandemics. Losing eradication status for diseases thought to be in the past. Overwhelming of healthcare systems to the point care cannot be obtained. Medication shortages, especially for things to treat “old” diseases and thus made in limited quantities. Unsafe or counterfeit medications being sold.

(Yes, I get the joke. But Chagas is horrible, so I immediately sympathized with the kid.)
