Once someone is detained, away from their family and lawyer, their chance of being deported goes up dramatically, in part because ICE uses detention to pressure people to give up.

OTOH I'm sure you're right that this formulation allowing them to avoid gendering him correctly was also a consideration for the writers.

my only comfort is now the mask is fully off. Remember when GC said bits like "nobody cares if a boy wears a dress, just no irreversible procedures" and now GC admit, to them ANY level of transition need be banned. NO CHANCE this ends up historically seen as anything but outright bigotry/persecution

So yes, not only would he do this, he is actively doing it right now by endangering our access to healthcare in order to protect insurance companies.

Labour's Manifesto promised to ban conversion therapy. But I defy anyone to explain how, looking at the totality of its policy platform, Labour's real policy is anything other than promoting desistance.

24.12.2025 15:24 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Conflating gender and biological sex is pseudo-science. Biological males can't become biological females, and vice versa, AND TRANS PEOPLE KNOW THAT. They are performing their preferred GENDER, not changing their SEX. You know, the same way cis men get hair plugs and cis women shave their legs.
It is 2025. The EHRC in the UK keeps trying to materialize a trans bathroom ban out of a muddled UKSC opinion third-sexing all trans people. A bill to criminalise those who provide trans minors with transition care passed in the US House of Representatives.
And cis "allies" still think this helps.
David Brooks has obsessively advocated to criminalize healthcare for trans children.
Today we learn Brooks was an alleged associate of Jeffery Epstein, a child trafficking pedophile.
One of the first victims of Epstein to come forward was a trans woman that Epstein assaulted when she was a child.
Some areas to watch out for, once this fairly beige report gets endorsed by all political parties and the NHS.
How 'complexity' will be defined and assessed, and what extra hurdles will be put before 'complex' individuals.
At its heart, it maintains & reinforces a system built on clinical control of and power over trans communities.
There is no effort to improve accountability. No recognition of institutional transphobia. No recognition of clinical violence.
Trans community voices are not centred in service design
It is a sign of how fundamentally abused and traumatised trans communities are in the UK that many folks are responding to Levy with relief and cautious welcome.
It could have been a lot worse.
But it fundamentally fails to deliver meaningful improvements to trans healthcare. 1/4
