what i mean to say is: "mary sue" as an umbrella term delves from misogyny 100%. you never hear it's opposite term 'gary stu' nowadays, i wonder why.
let's just say goku would be called a mary sue if he were a girl and everyone would hate her online.

of course you could make a point on female power fantasies, which IMO are just as valid as male power fantasies. superman, for example, doesn't go for a huge character arc in many of his stories, yet no one calls him a gary stu, they talk about "what he represents".

"mary sue" is just a vague term to describe any female character you're mad about.
is her development badly executed? are her actions justified by her personality or her story? does she lack imperfections in contrast to other characters? THOSE are valid criticisms for a character.

if there's a trope that I HATE with a passion is the one where a new character appears, and one specific main character immediately realizes they're up to no good, but everyone tells them they're paranoid/jealous, and then they get proven right and they get some flimsy ass apologies in the end.
